"I am a lover, a dancer, an artist, a writer, a singer, a wanderer, a boss, and a peon. I am a bitch, a goddess, a lunch mother, a helper, I am a cook, a laundress, a chauffer, and a maid. I am a confidante, a confessor, a teacher and a student. I am a nurse, a mediator, a referee, and an arbitrator. I am a storyteller, a painter, a philosopher, a poet, and a dreamer. I am all this, and more. What are you?"

Well, I'm a couch-sitter, a nose-picker, a slow-walker, and a slow-talker. I am a bum, a hobo, a vagrant, a wino, and a junkie. I am a farter, a shitter, a pee-er, and a wanker. I am distant, aloof, and apathetic. I am a hallucinator, a schizophrenic, and a graffiti-er. I am all this, and less. What are you?

Amateur pretension is the worst kind of pretension.

Pardonyou: Tee hee. At least the pretention is limited to 100 words :)

Snark aside, there's a lot to be said for imposing creative limits on oneself in order to learn more about how your (personal) creative process works. Heck, I might participate.

yes, you can participate in Portuguese, but watch out for the accented characters

How did they know? Wily bastards. If had been a 1000 words they could have had me.

Why not just use Metafilter? Everyone else does, and there's no word limit.

Because you cannot say anything you want on Metafilter--you might get banned! No word limit maybe, but a "idea limit" exists on Metafilter.

By trolling, you mean being impolite? Or comments that might lead to impolite discussion? Heavens!
Or what do you mean?

Did some people really need to FIND a place to say anything they want on the net? Those places seem to abound.

OK, back to the topic at hand... I think this is kind of a neat site. I think I'll try my hand at constrained writing. I also found at least one compelling story. Click on October 2001's batch and find an author named Updown. Updown's continuing story started in October and goes to the present. I really liked it, and am looking forward to further installments.

The coolest writing exercise I've seen in awhile, from MeFi'er Lileks:

For a few weeks I used Lance Lawson strips as writing exercises - I’d look at the strip, set the timer and give myself 30 minutes, tops, to write a tale. No rewrites, no second drafts, no thinking about the story when I was taking a shower.
