... in a very real sense, the history of “Classical Mandaic” begins in 1875, even if it had to wait another 90 years for scholars to come up with a name for it.

This looks really interesting, but pop-ups at that link hijacked my browser. Just a random bad ad that was served or is this a bad site?

I'm favoriting the post for obvious reasons, but I ain't clicking the link unless and until the concern raised by xris is addressed.

I wasn't served ads or popups of any kind at the link, with or without Adblock running.

It's a Wordpress blog, and it hasn't caused any problems on my phone and computer, but I'm running ad blocking software.

Reason/2004--Wired/2011
No pop-ups/No ad-blocks when I linked...
Maybe xris is compromised by malware...
Or their ISP has succumbed to market pressures...
that Google will usher because fragmentation is inevitable...
Finally, Lynx will be outlawed, syllabaries licensed.

no popups for me, but Privacy Badger caught no less than 9 "potential trackers" that really wanted to run.

anyway, the actual article seems fine. about equal parts snarking on Macuch snarking on HIS linguistic informants, and the author snarking knowingly about condescending philologists and confounding linguistic informants.

anybody with more information want to say more?

OK, reassured by further comments I clicked on the link, and it is indeed really interesting, so much so that I'm going to swipe it for LH. Thanks, Joe!
