Now the story of a family that wants to rule the galaxy, and the one son who had no choice but to save it. (slyt)

I laughed. This is excellently leveraged brand promotion and crossover.

I knew I'd seen this before.

Getting Actual Ron Howard to redo the bit was a nice touch, though.

Luke falls back, and the droid begins to project a small hologram of a beautiful woman in a pre-recorded message.

PRINCESS LEIA: I need a favor, Obi Wan Kenobi. You're my only hope.

So the new Solo movie is going to have a scene where they do the Kessel Run? 🙄

Previously

(and it's not even the one tobascodagama links)

I kind of prefer how the Nerdist version cleverly matches actual Arrested Development soundbites with Star Wars scenes.

I'm almost disappointed this post isn't related to this tweet.

My head-canon for Han making the Kessel Run in X Parsecs is that he found a short-cut. You're welcome.
posted by Coaticass at 3:15 PM on May 2, 2018 [5 favorites]

That's actually the canon explanation, IIRC. The idea is that the Kessel Run involves a bunch of wormholes and warps, and Han found a shorter route through or some bullshit.

I wish they'd just admitted they got it wrong. :-/

Lucas weighed in on it being about finding the shortest route in a Blu-Ray commentary. Being decades later, he could just be going with what the nerdsphere already spent those years rationalizing into that particular explanation.

The movie will, of course, solidify it as canon.

It's actually the Kessel Fun-Run, and the whole ambiguous conflict with Lando was Han taking it way to seriously and going all cuthroat to come in first.

Now that we've blue-milked the Ron Howard/Star Wars/Arrested Development connection dry, let's go deeper into Howard's career, like Happy Days, so we can see Solo do a Fonz-ish "Ayyyyyy..." FonzSolo - it works for me.

Belatedly realizing this was only going to feature characters from A New Hope, Aayla Secura blew herself for nothing.

If that explanation about the Kessel run was legit it wouldn't matter that the ship did it, though, it would be 'I made the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs".

Unless the key factor was the ship's speed and maneuverability that allowed it to navigate treacherous space-terrain like a black hole cluster (which I believe was the EU explanation).

Also: "It's one Death Star, Vader. What could it cost, ten credits?"

hahahahaha!

I still don't want to see "Solo" though, the very idea of it makes me cranky.

Was also hoping for a Hermano reference.
