It's a different kind of buzz

Deadly /ˈdɛdli/ adjective: excellent, awesome, very good.

I've never had money in the flesh
I mighta seen it in the banks and I've seen it on the movies
And I'm very proud of my address, cos I'm from the Taree town
I'm from the Biripi Nation

Black fellas say, 'Who's your mob and where you from?'
Cos when you're one of us you know you'll always belong
Yeah, we don't care, about your job or the clothes you wear
Cos all we wanna know is if we're connected and we usually are
Through aunties, uncles, cousins, sisters and brothers
It's just the face, it's the mad thing about being black

Cos we'll always be deadly
It's just something in our blood
It's not about them and us,
It's a different kinda buzz
You are truly the ruler, of your own destiny
Cos everyday you rule
Cos you're a deadly Aboriginie

Me and the mob we've always known
That we can do anything, anywhere, as good as anyone
And anybody who knows us knows, that when we're doing some thing
We do it how it should be done

We can run, we can jump, we can sing, we can dance
We can do anything if we take a chance
And we don't care, if it's a challenge then we got no fear
Cos you know we are mothers, fathers, teachers, nurses, doctors, lawyers, I can sing a thousand voices
Cos we've been here, for over sixty thousand years

Cos we'll always be deadly
It's just something in our blood
It's not about them and us,
It's just a different kinda buzz
You are truly the ruler, of your own destiny
Cos everyday you rule
Cos you're a deadly Aboriginie

Deadly, deadly, deadly,
Better than we ever dreamed, of the crop, we're the cream
Deadly, deadly, deadly
Proud of this old flag we wear, try and take it if you dare

Cos we'll always be deadly
It's just something in our blood
It's a mad feeling cuz,
It's a deadly kinda buzz
You are truely the ruler, yes, of our own destiny
Cos everyday we rule
Cos we are deadly Aboriginies
We're deadly, we're deadly, yeah,
Cos we are deadly Aboriginies
We're deadly, we're deadly, yeah
Cos we are deadly Aboriginies

Ok, that was really well done. I love the goofy, playful and very human warm up that suddenly goes somewhere.

Well done. That was the best lip synced music video I've ever seen.

Nice post!

Oh, that's fabulous. And is that little girl actually singing on the soundtrack, because she's amazing.

... and I have gone and looked at the YT comments, and yes, that's Australian comedian Andy Saunders' daughter Luca on the vocals. Impressive.

There's a fair amount more about Andy Saunders and how this video came about in this article.
The clip is a complete Manning Valley creation, brought together through the combined efforts of Andy, Hamish McDonald from Paradyme Studios and Scott McAdam from Scandish Films.

“We’ve been a team for about a year now, we’ve put out a few videos and do a lot of silly stuff, and like to have fun,” said Andy. “I’ve always had this song in my back pocket and I brought it forward and in a few months Hamish produced the music. He didn’t want to have the same music as Royals. Hamish likes to rework and play with things in the studio so it makes it ours. He said, if we’re going to do it we’ll have to rewrite the whole track.”

Is there an etymology for the Australian Aboriginal use of “deadly”? I'm wondering if there was a similar-sounding word in an indigenous language that had positive connotations which it came from.

Is there an etymology for the Australian Aboriginal use of “deadly”?

The Irish also used 'deadly' to mean the same thing, like later generations used 'wicked' or 'sick'. It probably moved into Aboriginal English (which is its own dialect) through the early Irish in Australia.
