L’Aviatrice, a short animated film inspired by Jacqueline Auriol, France's first female test pilot. (SLVimeo, French with English subtitles)

I visited the Texel Air Show yesterday, so perhaps this resonates a bit more than it usually would... if you know the love the real enthusiasts have for flying and all technology that supports it (and how that is visible during such an air show), and how much that animation shows it too... I salute Madame Auriol, and all the animators who managed so well to convey that love.

Thanks, this is a beautiful little film. It makes me wish I understood French better - I suspect I'm missing some of the poetry in the subtitles. "Je suis passe".

“I fly because it releases my mind from the tyranny of petty things. ”

Interesting to see this today since I just read a news article about Jaye Edwards, one of the last surviving female pilots who served in the second world war.

Is it just me or did the animated version of Madame Auriol resemble (especially her smile) Jodie Whittaker, the new Doctor on Doctor Who? Nevertheless, a beautiful depiction of flight and a fine depiction of a just a part of a pilot's personality... my only experience in a small plane was as a passenger of a 3-prop Cessna with Los Angeles media's only female 'Trafficwatch' pilot. The combined effort to control the plane and observe ground conditions (while keeping up with the crowded skies, appreciate the beauty and banter with a disc jockey) made her one of the greatest multitaskers I ever knew.

Also, it's L'Oiseau :)

yeah, that was deliberate... I noticed Oiseau is masculine so (in my arrogant English way) changed it to femaine
