In a year of extreme wildfires, it is interesting to recall the story of Firestorm 1991 in Eastern Washington and North Idaho (by Jess Walter).

I just finished Timothy Egan's The Big Burn. Very good read. Interesting parallels with both the fires and the robber barons.

Jess Walter! I love his short story collection We Live in Water. A few years ago Jess Walter did a podcast series with Sherman Alexie -- called "A Tiny Sense of Accomplishment". Very good listening for those who like writing and literature. Episodes are still floating out there.
