It’s interesting that none of the three young men who were profiled managed to successfully rehabilitate (if you’re defining it strictly in the sense of remaining out of jail). They also seemed a little ambivalent about their experiences there. I appreciate that it complicates the simple narrative of ‘bucolic setting solves all’.

I also wonder if there’s a way to enhance Pine Grove’s rehabilitative effect, or a way to provide stronger post-incarceration support to these young men. The for-life mandated gang registry mentioned off-handedly in the article sounded tough to maneuver, for example.
