Now you are perfect.

"While in the waters of Lembeh, Indonesia, diver Pall Sigurdsson and friends encountered a tiny veined/coconut octopus who had made a home inside a disposable plastic cup. [...] Rather than leave the octopus to a cruel fate, Sigurdsson and friends spent a great deal of their diving time searching for a new shell. They tried several shells, but the octopus didn’t respond until the perfect one was found." (via Laughing Squid)

What a cute octopus. My heart melted at the way it reached its tiny tentacle out to touch the diver’s hand. “Hello friend.”

I am hoping there won't be a milkshake duck moment with this one, because boy did I need to see that today.

My gosh that was wonderful.

Tiny octopus is a tiny, perfect octopus.

Thank you for posting. I almost never watch upbeat, feel-good videos because I am Ms Cranky Pants. That was lovely.

This went viral in Iceland over the summer and from what I can tell, Páll Sigurðsson, the diver who made the video, seems like an upstanding guy. So unless that octopus turns out to be the future destroyer of mankind, I think we're okay.

So unless that octopus...

You had to say it.

I loved the inevitable moment where the octo kept the cup and swapped shells.

If the octopus turns out to be the destroyer of worlds and to hasten the Millenium I will rush towards this heart-meltingly lovely End Of Days

Until it’s melted your heart, it can’t leave the shell and move into your chest cavity.

I, for one, welcome our tiny, adorable, cup-dwelling cephalopod overlords!

Definitely not a milkshake cup.

I was watching Doctor Who the other day, and I had the realization that the Doctor likes Amy and Clara because, when confronted by something alien, they don't scream, but respond with curiosity. Make pals with an octopus? Why not, says Pond. Here, have a shell.

The scale on this is a bit confusing - I read the cup as a regular-sized drink cup, but in that case the diver's hand is terrifyingly huge. The cup must be very small indeed. The octopus remains adorably tiny though.

I know I’m in an emotionally fragile state when some tears have escaped over a rehoused cephalopod.

"Wait what? No, buzz off! I said no! I don't want your stupid shell. No, no, I definitely don't want that shell either. It's exactly the same as the first. Wow, you are really bad at this. I like this shell because it's clear, I can see through it and it lets a lot of light in. It highlights my skin tones nicely, don't you think? No, I also don't want that shell in particular. That shell would just make me look fat. Look at you in your silly rubber suit with all the hoses going everywhere, obviously you don't understand fashion at all. Look at this clear shell, so conical and truncated. No one else has a shell like this one. Find me another just like it so I have a matching set and I will pretend to be your friend for five minutes. No, see, that's just another stupid shell and... you know what, fine, I give up. Give me the stupid shell. Give it to me. No, I don't want to ditch the beautifully clear cup shell I already told you that. Why would I do that? You're not going to screw off and leave me alone until I do that, aren't you? Wait, now I'm perfect? Oh my God, you perfect idiot. I'm so out of here. I need a triple vodka martini and a Parliament. This is why we need to ban tourists completely from the island. No, not Indonesia. Manhattan."

Somehow, for me, the tone of the captions makes it read just like a picture book. Which adds to the charm.

This octopus is adorable and everything but OF COURSE it is planning a planet-wide takeover. They gave primates a chance and look what we did. It's time for the cephalapocene.

I emphasize with this octopus so much. CHANGE IS BAD! I'm just going to stay in this completely untenable cup.

Thank you SO much for the most adorable moment of my day. What a nice little octopus. I'm glad it made some new patient friends who helped it find a better home. This was cuter than Kittens.
