She is the very best. And somehow apparently I missed Silver Hawk which clearly needs to be rectified.

I wonder if there's a name in the business for "kicking sound", which is very similar to "punching sound". Both seem to be closely related to "whip sound".

So much momentum! So unconserved!

For kicking sound, the snap kick:
Sawisch-sha!

Dragon pants have more swoosh.

In the Heroine Complex book series, the asian superheroines of the first two books spend a lot of time talking about how they were inspired by the movie The Heroic Trio and speculating about which one of them gets to be Michelle Yeoh.

I can see why.

It doesn't seem very realistic.

I came for Silver Hawk, which is one of the goofy-funnest movies of all time.

>Yeoh plays the title character, a masked comic book style heroine who rides a motorcycle, saves kidnapped pandas

...she does what now? Wow, I can watch this for free on Amazon for some weird reason. Suddenly I have plans.

This is the most satisfying thing.

Despite having seen pretty much all of these movies, I'd forgotten that she spent a lot of the early part of her career with fairly short hair, so for a minute I was like, "Hey, wait, where's Yeoh?"

And the fact that she's still pretty much capable of doing all of this at *checks Wikipedia* 57, is just, like, "Oh, come on, why you gotta make me feel old like that?"

She is absolutely the best.

I wonder if watching a supercut like this increases ADHD symptoms.

She's the best.

I remember taking my old man to the movies, and he got to pick between Crunchy Tiger Chewy Dragon, and Chocolat.

It's crushing to see a parent make a decision that is so obviously wrong. No amount of convincing would get him to change his mind.

We were watching ST:Discovery one time and I was like, "Wow, this is a really well-choreographed fight scene for Star Trek!" and then I smacked my forehead and said, "That's Michelle Yeoh, dummy!"

My favorite of her fight scenes is the mahjong game in Crazy Rich Asians. I mean, she certainly kicks ass at the wedding reception but she's much more subtle in the mahjong game, even if she loses.

I'm just coming in here to say how much I wuv her. That GQ article was everything.

CBS should just reproduce this supercut in the DISCO world and they would have the best Short Treks episode to date. They could even set the whole thing back in the Mirror Universe.

Come on, her best stunt ever was the riding the motorcycle onto the train in Supercop. Apparently she had never ridden a motorcycle before that stunt, and she also did multiple takes even though her knees were banged up.

I was startled to learn, some years back, that she had been training for the ballet. A spinal injury derailed her ballet aspirations. It doesn't seem to have affected her martial arts and incredible stuntwoman career at all.

This is my favorite photo of her:

This made my morning! Heroic Trio is one of my favourite guilty pleasure movies. What a cast: Michelle, Maggie Cheung, and the late Anita Mui. And when Michelle Yeoh got cast in Discovery, there was much shrieking with joy. love love love her.

I love Michelle Yeoh. My favorite Michelle Yeoh fact is that for Crunching Tiger hHodden Dragon she had to learn her lines phonetically. Yeah, I’m just not that badass.

I think she’s also an immense actor. She had a role in Marco Polo (?) someNetflix thing and she was fantastic, as always.

This made me wonder: has anyone ever made a supercut of Martial Arts Punches/Kicks That Actually Made Contact by Mistake?

Now doing a dive into “gotta find more Michelle Yeoh films” when I bumped into Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny — youtube link. (sorry, not awake enough to figure out how to tag on an ipad). Michelle Yeoh with Donnie Yen directed by the inimitable Yuen Woo-Ping! Oh I hope it’s good. On list for holiday viewing. I have Amazon Prime, but sadly, Silver Hawk isn’t available there.

giddy over later-in-life Yeoh tv/film credits
Overheard in the theater, from someone somehow unfamiliar with her before 2019: "Oh shit! Asian Karen be throwin' hands, yo! Mad skills."

I was so happy that she was cast in Discovery, but her role as Captain Georgiou was kind of a cipher (the writing was pretty thin). Her Discovery role as Empress Georgiou in the mirror universe was a bit more interesting, but still more outfit than acting. Now I hear they want to do a Section 31 (Star Trek's MI-5/6) show around her? Have they forgotten how casually murderous and psychotic this character is? And she's so comfortable with that aspect of herself that I don't see how any Xena-style redemption story can be credible. Who in their right mind would want to be part of her crew? Maybe they can just leave her as an ultra-bad trouble maker and have the Section-31 agent be part of her crew whose job is to keep an eye on her, but at the cost of doing bad stuff (hence, drama).

I watched Silver Hawk on the recommendation of everyone here last night, and it is AMAZING.

Bee tee dubs, though, it doesn't show up as a movie "included with Prime" in the US. If you click through, though, it's free with ads. (I didn't see any ads; ymmv.)
