ALIENS THE RIDE【Planet Coaster】 (SLYT, 15:09)

Stuck inside? Missing amusement parks because of Reasons? Youtube user Hin Nya has spent countless hours in an unmodded version of Planet Coaster making a first-person POV roller coaster ride unlike anything you've ever seen. Everything in the video was put together by hand using pre-existing game assets, including the titular aliens. Strap in, we're going to space. This is great - was interesting that one thing which immediately struck me is how this is designed over a space about the size of some whole theme parks, and how much work must be done to keep irl coasters compact, making really thrifty use of the space. Internet binge on coaster design incoming...

Never seen Aliens, nor played Planet Coaster, but this video is amazing. It's shiny and colorful and suspenseful and it conveys a narrative!

Thunder Mountain is kinda brilliant like that, because that is not that huge a space for the length and variety of ride you get out of it.

Okay, I just finished the roller coaster video and the making-of video. Three observations:

1. It's amazing how much that score can get my heart racing after all these years.
2. They missed a real opportunity at the end. The coaster should have stopped dead in the room that looked like you were getting off, only to shatter the sense of calm by throwing you into the power loader fight.
3. What the fuck kind of roller coaster construction program needs giant maggots as a design option?

The maggots are from the Halloween/Spooky content pack IIRC.

The PlanCo Steam modding/park-sharing community is freakin' amazing and this is one of its highlights. Theme park nerds may also be intrigued to know that many users have spent uncountable hours on various types of accurate reproductions of real-world parks.

Anyone else reminded of Nuka World?

First off, this is really really well done. Excellent use of the music and lighting and game assets.

I am a tiny smidge disappointed that the creator went to all of the effort to sculpt the aliens using game assets but didn't attempt to make any of the mechanical design from the movie, like the APC, Dropship, Sulaco, or power loader.

Really well done. Loved the incorporation of the music, sound effects, and dialogue snippets from the movie.

We're on an express elevator to hell, goin' down! And then up! And then down again, but faster!

Following Alonzo's comment, that's what's great about the story structure of Aliens: You think it's over, but it's not over. Seems like a perfect model for a ride.

Wow. This video reminds me a bit of Cedar Point’s Disaster Transport.

Never seen Aliens

Oh, you poor thing... Hearing the clips from Aliens really makes me want to watch it again, it's been too long. I may be in the minority, but I feel it's even better than the original. Hearing that score takes me back.

Never seen Aliens

Torn between "We got a live one!" and "Stop your grinnin' and drop your linen!"

That was so much better than I expected it to be! The descent followed by the arrival at the base reminded me a bit of arriving at Rapture in Bioshock. Now I want one of these for Bioshock!
