Meet Wilbur, the New Mayor of Rabbit Hash KY Wilbur received 13,143 votes, the highest winning total ever. Overall, there were 22,985 votes, the highest total ever for a Rabbit Hash election, according to the Rabbit Hash Historical Society. Rabbit Hash has a population of under 500 people. Organizers claim to run the "only honest election in the country." The town trades votes for cash in the mayoral election that traditionally goes to the dogs.

On Tuesday night, the mayoral election in Rabbit Hash, Kentucky was called for Wilbur Beast, a French bulldog, in a landslide victory.

Wilbur beat out incumbent Mayor Brynn, a pit bull who has spent the last four years in office.

Two of the runners-up — Jack Rabbit, a beagle, and Poppy, a golden retriever — will become official Rabbit Hash Ambassadors, joining Ambassador Lady Stone, a border collie who earned her title after the 2016 election.

WCPO LOCAL NEWS: Since 1998, the mayor of Rabbit Hash has been a dog. Rabbit Hash’s canine mayors don’t make legislative decisions for the town, which is owned by the Rabbit Hash Historical Society, but their elections raise money to keep the town’s historic buildings in good condition.

SOUTHERN LIVING: Rabbit Hash has enjoyed a 22-year string of canine mayors. The first elected mayor in Rabbit Hash's history was a mutt named Goofy Borneman-Calhoun. He was inaugurated in 1998, and died in office in July 2001, at the impressive age of 16. The town was mayor-less until 2004, when a black lab named Junior Cochran was sworn into office. Like Goofy before him, Junior died in office in May 2008. A few months later, the town's first female mayor, a border collie named Lucy Lou, was elected. Lucy Lou stepped down in 2016 and handed the office over to Brynneth Pawltro.

THE HILL
: A spokeswoman for Wilbur Beast, his human Amy Noland, told Fox News that they both thanked supporters for the win. “It’s an exciting adventure and a deeply meaningful cause to preserve the river hamlet town of Rabbit Hash, Ky.,” they said in a statement. “The town welcomes visitors and will continue to provide fun events for all ages to come experience the nostalgia and charm we have to offer.”

NBC NEWS : Noland said Wilbur is handling the stress of the new job pretty well: "He’s done a lot of interviews locally, he’s had a lot of pets, a lot of belly scratches and a lot of ear rubs."

You must look at his campaign photo. All the elements of scandal, but somehow he comes out unscathed. Bet it was the bowtie that saved him.

Jeez, only one of those stories showed the outgoing incumbent. Talk about Stalinesque erasure.
