Lovely!
This is where I get to tell about something that happened a couple of months ago. I was going for a long walk in a forest with my dog. What I like about this forest is that even though it is close to Copenhagen, after 15 minutes or so all the noises of "civilisation" disappear. There is something about the topography that blocks out sounds from the main roads, and there are no flight paths over the area. You can hear the wind in the trees, the birds, the sea, and sometimes little animals shuffling about in the undergrowth, or deer barking.
This day, when I was about 45 minutes in, I heard a deep hum. A bass tone that was not from any one thing, but the hum of the forest. I've read about this in fiction, but I had no idea it was something that actually happened. It was amazing. I didn't think to record it, since it was a deeply spiritual experience, and I was overwhelmed. Even the dog was unusually humbled.

Loved this when I saw it on Kottke yesterday! I sent it to a bunch of friends and family. Similarly, I like forest walkthough videos on YouTube.

My daughter and I have both, separately, found solace in forests during isolation this year. I don't know how I would have made it without daily walks, and she spends time just sitting on the ground in the trees.

I wish these were 20-30 minutes long so I could use them for meditation. There is a set of “scenes” in the MyNoise app (Winter Walk, Spring Walk, etc.) that are along similar lines.
