@ThreateningCake is a Twitter account for pictures of cakes with threatening auras. (Not to be confused with the classic Cake Wrecks, though those sometimes have threatening auras too.)

That “Lion King with Dead Mufasa” cake came across my Tumblr feed yesterday. It’s really quite beautifully done!

Did you catch the tweet from one young mother (TAMMY[?]) who said her daughter had an endless appetite for getting on the top of the slide and having TAMMY "repel" her back down the slide, presumably with a hand to her face as if she were Mufasa? What's that all about?
posted by jamjam at 2:15 AM on May 31, 2021 [2 favorites]

The "Mufasa dies" cake is a strong contender, but I'm also threatened by the "I know you're having an affair" cake, the "Someday you'll meet a boy" cake, and the "Welcome back from jail coma" cake.

Actually, I realise I have a contender here: the "patient in the ICU" cake my mother had made. (Long story.)

I hope you’re typing it up now.

It takes me ten minutes to tell it, I don't think it'll fit into a comment

but anyway I sent it to the twitter account so you can look at it if you want

I guess Yoda/Shrek take cakes to DEFCON4.
Must be the green icing.

This tweet comes off as mean. It's obvious that it was made by someone who doesn't normally bake cakes and it's for a kid's birthday. So, what am I missing here? Where's the joke?

OMG the guy in the hospital bed has got to be the winner.

I mean, his smile and the balloons and...everyone just helping themselves...the carnage...the carnage...

The Grimace one yeeted this whole project clear into not-before-coffee land.

Like seriously, a hefty percentage of those cakes are Shrek-related.

The Shrek thing is puzzling but then there was this:
Shrek : Onions have layers. Ogres have layers... You get it? We both have layers.
Donkey : Oh, you both have LAYERS. Oh. You know, not everybody like onions. CAKE! Everybody loves cake! Cakes have layers!
Shrek : I don't care what everyone likes! Ogres are not like cakes.

No explanation for Yoda cakes though.

I feel bad for those laying lions. They don't look happy. (I'm absolutely on board with Star Wars themed divorce cakes.)

Oh I love twitter accounts like this -- they are such good entertainment. I especially loved the little sidetrip into subway sandwiches, though hilariously this person's follower count didn't seem to share that sentiment.

the "I know you're having an affair" cake

I kind of want to know the backstory for that cake, but I also kinda don't. But it is interesting how often that phrase ends up in TV and movie scripts, at least on a cursory search.

I agree. Reminds me of back in the day we used to have family reunions based on cakes like these.
At the last 'official' competition,, the winner was an arm (with a 'mother' tattoo) that was a jelly roll, so when you cut it, it bled.

(PS- at the last unofficial competition, my cake was remote-controlled)
