Aaron Fletcher is a nomadic shepherd and activist in Southern Oregon. There's a new mini-documentary on youtube about his "Guerilla Grazing" lifestyle.

Well, can't hurt! Looks like he's living the life he wants to live. I have doubts that his lifestyle would actually work if he was living far away from a comfortable and safe built environment, but as some kind of alternative modern lifestyle art project, it's not bad. I think it'd make more sense as part of an intentional community than guerilla grazing per se, but different strokes for different folks.

Well, he does seem to be at a different point on the political spectrum than the last group concerned with free range grazing rights in Oregon to make the news.

On the one hand, the last thing southern Oregon needs is more grazing. On the other hand, one dude with three sheep that are grazing waste land isn't exactly a major impact.

It looked like he had a rifle tucked away next to his bed. That makes sense for the livestock protection (though he might do well to have a guardian dog like a Pyrenees), and a white guy with a gun, even a quirky guy living in a tent with sheep, probably isn't going to get much friction from law enforcement in that area.

I never visited the Northwest but the more people I work with from that area and the more people I know ... well it is a bit different up there. It is cool that the interactions are so nice, and helps that a camera crew was following him, I wonder how his normal day-to-day interactions are. I also wonder if he has places he can stay when he needs a break from that lifestyle. I have no doubt he seems dedicated to that lifestyle but I can't imagine he does 364 days a year grazing and sleeping rough.
