we find two signers of the Declaration of Independence, George Wythe (VA) and William Ellery (RI), passing notes (in verse) back and forth during the Continental Congress.

I found transcriptions and commentary of the notes here. I admit, I found them less charming than the author of said article, given they in great part deal with the three-fifths rule (Wythe was whining about the possibility of being taxed according to their actual population instead of getting political power from slavery but no actual expense.)
