Misirlou played on homemade instruments with great enthusiasm by French band Les Fo'Plafonds (slyt).

Misirlou, Μισιρλού, previously, is a traditional Greek Rebetiko song, made popular in surf style by Dick Dale. There's a choreographed dance popular at Greek Festivals and International Folk Dance groups. The Greek lyrics to the song describe the love between a Greek Christian man and an Egyptian Muslim woman. The exact origins of the tune are unknown however it's likely it originated in Asia Minor or Egypt.

I love this version you found, jhc. Thanks for posting.

Hey, Les Fo'Plafonds: What do they call a Quarter Pounder with cheese in France.

That was surprisingly fun and entertaining! Ketchup bottle, kazoos, and...well, darn near the kitchen sink! And thanks for all of the previouslies, too - good to re-read some of the old tributes and history.

And checking out some of the band's other stuff - so whimsically eclectic! Check out their version of "The Final Countdown."

Thank you for this, and for inadvertently leading me on to Les Fo'Plafonds' medley of "Ghostbusters" and "Thriller," in which the vocalists have clearly learned the lyrics phonetically.

That was super fun! The hammer dulcimer thing was a bit quieter than the othe instruments and it's fascinating to see how they dealt with that, both in the arrangement and the miking/sound mixing.

Seriously, apart from the novelty angle, that bass is fantastic. Rock-solid.

I'm also really impressed by the dulcimer/harp thing.

Loved this, especially the hammered string thing. I got a strong feeling that they were playing somewhere in the catacombs of Paris, although there seemed to be some natural light coming in from somewhere.

I know of this song because of the Pete Seeger Carnegie Hall recording. It will be forever linked in my mind to his teaching the audience about the song in a very hopeful time. I feel like this performance has a lot in common with the 1960s one.

There's a quick pan later in the video where I'm pretty sure the dog got a burger.
