Super Smash Brothers director Masahiro Sakurai has started a YouTube channel on how to make games, an extention of previous educational efforts he has done in other media. (SLYT) posted by NoxAeternum (5 comments total) 29 users marked this as a favorite

I saw this earlier in the week and the videos up now are fairly introductory but really promising. In a few months this is going to be a really valuable repository of game development knowledge. I am curious how the ~5 minute videos will work out for the channel because it seems like YouTube either wants you to make 1 minute videos or 30+ minute ones.

Maybe a silly question: is this suitable for a 9-year-old to watch? My son's interested in making games, has dabbled in coding with Scratch, and loves Mario and Kirby and other Nintendo characters and so he'd probably love this.

In my opinion, yes. From my understanding, Sakurai has been doing similar work in media like Famitsu, and the channel trailer in the OP makes it clear that he intends this to be accessible to all.
