August is Falling is back! The EP lands September 2nd.

Pat Finnerty, Philadelphian musician, impetus of the Dr Dog cover of Here Comes the Hotstepper, and creator of the YouTube series What Makes This Song Stink, has developed a simple plan in Episode 7 - Machine Gun Kelly "Emo Girl". In the month since that episode, some stuff happened and the Simple Plan was expanded.

First, in the middle of listening to the song I blurted out "fuck it's really good!", and second, I love that the commenters are sticking with the plan. Hot tub!

Mrs Abehammerb opened the package containing my August is Falling t-shirt having no idea about the video series. "What is this, are you in a cult?" Ummmm...kind of?

Here's the video that blew Pat's channel up, a discussion of why Weezer's Beverly Hills stinks, from the POV of a guy who loves early Weezer. It's about more than just that though. Worth a watch.

Oh, Butch Walker. If you were a female barista anywhere in the Va-Hi/L5P coffee shops during the early 00s, you watched Butch go from a rocker fuckboi hitting on you to a very polite family man with his kid. But the man does know how to write a hook.

I'm legit looking forward to the EP?? Like, this actually slaps, and "Mad This Summer" is good! Like, Pat could actually just start a real pop punk band and I'd be on board.

Saw them here in the UK playing at Boston market on the Lincolnshire leg of their world tour. They’ve got a long road ahead of them, but surely this will be their breakthrough release?

(Found Pat Finnerty via MeFi and fell deeply down the rabbit hole…)

Aw sweet. I've been following them since they were just a hot tub idea back in Philly. Glad to see them getting some recognition!

Huh. I have a Butch Walker album (American Love Story... it's quite an album!) that I bought simply because another artist I was listening to and chatting with on twitter (Brian Wright) recommended it to me. I have no idea who the guy is, but that album has some of my newer favorite songs on it.

I just watched this a few minutes ago, and I love that he's taking this the whole way. Pat Finnerty is awesome, his channel is great, and I hope this takes off.

I'm all in, I posted some comments, I bought the t-shirt, I've sent everyone his videos. I joined the patreon last night. Among a certain segment of my friends "(beato)" has become the aside you look for opportunities to say, sort of like "that's what she said"

That song... doesn't stink. Hot tub times ahead.

I listen to techno music but somehow Pat Finnerty is my favorite music YouTuber. I love how he embraces every weird tangent in his videos. He's a natural entertainer and if I see him hosting a TV show in 5 years I won't be a bit surprised.

Butch Walker just released a new album last week, for those of you so inclined. The guy has made millions writing and producing for everybody from Taylor Swift to Sum 41 to Panic at the Disco to Keith Urban, , but absolutely nobody pays any attention to his fabulous solo material.

Oh, nice! I've been following Pat Finnerty since the Weezer video. Absolute legend. Gotta respect his commitments to the bits.

So I'm the owner, as of this moment, of the sole August is Falling post on all of Tumblr. Demographics, man lol

I found this hard to believe but using several different tools I can not refute it. Amazing.

Okay, so this has been a journey. First I listened to Butch Walkers new album, Butch Walker As... Glenn. Which is sort of a glam rock country-ish piano ballad album. I'd have to listen to it again, but it didn't immediately grab me.

Then I discovered that American Love Story has an accompanying film, and I had to watch that, and yes, I do like that album much better than the Glenn album.

Then I watched the Episode 7 linked above. I've seen Pat's videos in my YouTube page for a while but had never watched one and was charmed. And the whole Simple Plan at the end was amazing, and I cannot help but root for his hot tub dream to become reality.

Then I watched the new developments video and realized that he's really going for this.

THEN I listened to the EP, and found it horrifyingly delightful. I don't know whether to cheer on this project or cower in fear of what it might signal for the coming year or two of music.

And finally, I watched the Beverly Hills video. Which is a totally amazing piece of work. The feeling of being betrayed by a band you previously loved, and still unambiguously love the stuff you love from them, but are left wondering if they were ever actually good and you were just young and naive... That video. No wonder it blew him up. I'm amazing he has such a large following with such a sparse posting "schedule", but I guess his following is built through other exposure, too.

Anyway, this was fun for me. I don't get taken on journeys like this often, and I'm really glad I went on this one. I might watch a couple more of Pat's videos, but obviously I need to spread them out and not watch them all at once.
