My brain is wired for 20 years of left-hand drive cars, so it's telling me - ⚠️ he's hanging out the window and not even watching! ⚠️

If you want to spend hours of your time on this stuff, search YouTube for "Cinematic FPV". Here's a recent favourite:

I love that we can all be birds now.

Well, kinda. If you can fly a helicopter with your thumbs and have the reaction speed of a fighter pilot on amphetamines, sure.

Haha! Me too! I was having a conversation with that part of my brain while I was watching.

The drone work was done by the same guy (Jay Christensen) who did the bowling alley drone video that made the rounds in early '21.

I believe his La Croix Skating video was posted in that thread, but I didn't see La Croix on Ice, which is a hoot.

That is amazing, like a tour, it's anticipatory and diverting, people's reactions, all of it.

Wild! Super fun to watch.

The whole "shut down 9 blocks of downtown" feels a little braggy, not to say it isn't close to downtown LA but it's across the river in a no-man's land created from part of Boyle Heights when they built the 101/5/10 freeways through it. If you say downtown I expect to see high-rises. It also gets less traffic because it's partially bisected by the 1st/4th/6th St bridges. (These same bridges featuring in many car commercials). There are an absolute TON of small creative video/ad agencies around and they are constantly filming on the small industrial-zoned streets. Here's a map of their route in the video: https://goo.gl/maps/ugYqkZ5mPGgNyv8W8

Highly recommend the taco and pizza places on 1st if you ever find yourself over there

I thought downtown Los Angeles would be more glamorous. Like with deluxe apartments, swimmin pools, and high end fashion stores. And starlets ...lots of starlets.

yikes, I couldn't watch it? I'm very prone to motion-sickness and even just the first ten seconds was a problem. It looked really cool though!

I took it as wry humor, because I just assumed this was the actual core of some small industrial town in the desert. I had no idea it was Los Angeles!

Counterpoint: the first thing my spouse said was "did they block off the streets?!?!!"

The shutdown comment seemed like an explanation for how they did it and also to reassure people no pedestrians were at risk of being harmed. Not bragging.

Also had to stop watching but WOWIE it seemed cool and the song is a bop.

As someone who's rated to fly commercial drone videography/photography, I read "we shut down 9 blocks" as "Please don't take away my ratings. Mr. Air Safety Inspector, Sir. We did this by the book." This is important, because the FAA does not screw around. I could write a treatise about the many ways they are backwards as anything around medical issues, but they are coming from a place of wanting to ensure safety for the public, even if it is in extremely conservative and often frustrating ways.

The "bragging" is not they they shut down streets. It's that they say they "shut down nine blocks of downtown." I assume you'd have to be filming something pretty high profile to get permission to block off nine blocks of actual downtown. The area they filmed in is clearly not downtown. It's an industrial area that probably doesn't have a ton of traffic to begin with. They probably shot on a weekend to less of a nuisance.

It's a neat video, though.

The video does what it is supposed to, though. I had never heard of this artist and now the song is stuck in my head.

The music video seemed technically impressive, but also kind of pointlessly going back and forth. By comparison, the wrigley field fly through linked above just seems totally insane and hard to imagine how it could be done.

Like JauntyFedora says, that's an area that is pretty empty even on weekdays. If they shot it on a Sunday literally no one would notice that they were shutting down the streets. And I would not call it DTLA. DTLA-adjacent, maybe.

I found this interesting for the first minute and then it was a bit too much back-and-forth for me. I definitely appreciate the technical artistry of what the drone operator is doing, though. On preview, what jonathanhughes said.

It's nine blocks, but of Los Angeles. I assume that s like one house for most cities

I executed a drift like that one time, perfectly on my first try. On my second try I nearly ruined everything. There has not been a third try.

I dug the video, the only thing that got to me is that Phoenix is now an old enough band to have influenced younger artists.

This is the kind of stuff I like to see with drones. Just crazy cool high speed flying shots.

I do wonder what the video would sound like if they left the background noise in.
