📢📢📢 Week 2 Fundraiser Update – With your help the site will SURVIVE.
November 9, 2022 11:09 AM   Subscribe

📢📢📢Now, we ask you to help REVIVE Metafilter 📢📢📢 As of today’s fundraising update, we’re only $500 a month away from our Survive target!* The community is coming together to keep the lights on at our shared online home. But we need to go further to safeguard Metafilter’s future. It’s time to 🌱Revive Metafilter.🌱

There are more details in today’s fundraising update, but if you just want the highlights:

crouton meter showing $6,546.67 in donations

New recurring contributions since the start of the fundraiser: $6,546.67
New one-time contributions since the start of the fundraiser: $38,394.15

That means we’re only $500 away from our original Survive target - just enough to keep the site on life support, but without funding to help it grow. One-time contributions have created a foundation that will give the site stability.

Now we just need a final push. We know we can edge over that Survive target. In the last two weeks of the fundraiser, let’s get to Revive, so that we can start rebuilding the site to become a sustainable operation that doesn’t need to issue these urgent appeals for help ever again.

Please continue giving. Please continue publicizing Metafilter’s need to raise funds. Please continue participating in the fundraising activities. And, above all, please keep posting and commenting on Metafilter. You’re the reason the site exists.

Help REVIVE Metafilter and check out the fundraising activities that are underway:

Great news, happy to hear the lights will stay on!!!!

I'm at my max monthly donation but I've definitely been sharing the auction, there's some really great holiday gift stuff in there even for people who've never heard of metafilter!

And if FanFare is more your turf, DirtyOldTown has his own posts-for-sale campaign here, which inspired me to also do my own.

I have been really curious about how fundraising is going, and I'm very grateful for this update - and very encouraged by it!

It's great to see all the creativity in the various campaigns, too - the sponsored post ones are especially delightful. (EmpressCallipygos, I was about to link to DirtyOldTown's thing - so great that you're doing one, too! Thank you!)

Thanks for this great update, jacquilynne!

I just signed up for a monthly donation. And if I can get my intergenerationally stingy behind to do it, you can too!

Y'all are really gonna let me have a hand-carved cocktail spoon for $40 measly dollars? Click over to that auction and make me pay more!

Now THIS is the update I would expect if my favorite community's existence were on the line. Water under the bridge, though. Increased my monthly!

I'm old, and I haven't done recurring subs for *anyone* before. I prefer one time (larger) donations as it's easier to keep track. But I have done two recent one time donations when I found out how low we were.

Now I'm making my first ever recurring sub as well. Go Metafilter!

I upped my monthly a year or so ago, and just did it again yesterday. I'm very pleased to see how well it's going, and I hope we meet the stretch!

Switched from a quarterly to a monthly, and doubled my overall amount. It would be amazing to get up into that REVIVE territory!

I doubled my monthly and did a one-time donation, too.

Hooray for MetaFilter, woo!

I’ve upped my monthly donation for the first time since 2016. I don’t post much (ever) but MeFi is genuinely the best of the web.

I'm popping on my Steering Committee hat here:

There's been chatter here and there about why the Steering Committee wasn't ringing the clanging chimes of doom about the precarious financial position that MetaFilter was in. It was mostly because we knew that once we could put the story and facts out about where we were and where we needed to be, the community would come through.

Plus, we're not really a "clanging chimes of doom" group.

Thank you to everyone upping and re-upping and buying posts and spoons. <3

Don't worry, the rest of us are.

Doubled my admittedly-modest monthly sub.

You're all worth it.

I don’t have a stable income to justify recurring payments but this site has been my internet backbone for twenty friggin years, so I’m happy to throw some cash in the hat. (Would love to see more merch options come around someday too!)

We have this update posted on AskMe and MeTa as well and on AskMe, aniola pointed out that the little ticker in the footer was at 6,770 readers helping MetaFilter but right now we're at 7,570!

I started a recurring donation a few weeks ago after only giving during the annual fundraisers. I just saw all the good news and realized how relieved I am that the site isn't shutting down. I figure that's worth doubling my donation.

The ticker is at 7615 now.

.
And thank God its them instead of you!.
- And if we do indeed to decide to record a charity appeal record and sell it as a limited edition vinyl release - then I want to let it it be known that I have era specific expertise in wearing a long striped scarf and kind of being in the background.
(Sub-upped to spread a smile of joy.)

I voted, then set up a small recurring metafilter contribution. It's not a lot, I'm a glorified hobo, but hopefully it'll keep the lights on for my favorite internet friends.

I'm tapped! That's it for the $5 per FF movie post/matching thing.

However!

It's still possible to get:
-weirdly specific film recommendations for a $5 donation!
-6 movie posts on the theme of your choice for a $20 donation!
