This book feels like the character select screen for the most awesome fighting game ever.

I love posts that point me in the direction of my ignorance. Rabelais, Gargantua & Pantagruel, and St. Bartholomew's Day massacre are all far outside the orbit of my historical and literary knowledge. Thank you for the excellent post.

Great links!
Also, this kinda inspires me to integrate ‘drolatic’ into my weirdo vernacular. :)

I read Gargantua & Pantagruel last year, and I can wholly recommend the experience, even if some of the humour is a bit dated. E.g., Rabelais seems to think that long lists are a lot more hilarious than is commonly thought to be the case today. The core message of enjoying life and not taking things too serious remains valid, however.
