For These Women of Color, Historical Dressing Is a Modern Art Form: "For some, anachronistic attire is a conversation-starter; for others, it’s merely a joyful form of escapism. Either way, it can offer the rest of us a captivating lesson in history, style, and identity. Below, meet seven women and their wardrobes."

I follow Dr. Millar (@sewstine) on Insta already but I sure wish this article included everyone else's links. Will try to track them down and share them here when I get a chance.

I found some other folks in this world through cosplayers' feeds. Not surprising that there's overlap! One of my personal favorite projects is this beautiful recreation of a portrait by @scificheergirl on Insta. She does a lot of different styles of costuming, but her mashups of superheroes with historical costuming are particularly fun.

Ouch. That chain mail cap in the last picture. With no lining that is likely to tear her hair to shreds. Hopefully there is a discrete cap the same colour as her hair.

The "good parts" semi-reënactment groups I’ve known usually have more evidence of historical multiculturality than complainers expect. But my favorite final response was "And if not, high time."

check out SewRena, 1950s that she mostly makes. Gorgeous non-theatrical clothes and home dec. And:

"I do not look back hoping for the days when everyone dressed like me. I look forward to the day everyone shows up comfortable as their best selves"
