Lions thought extinct in Chad reappear after 20 year hiatus. Lions have not been spotted in Chad's Sena Oura National Park since 2004, but a remote camera has now managed to capture a lioness in her prime.

No lions in Chad? Dude, bro, like the lion’s always been inside me. He like never left, ya know?

Semi-related: for anyone who likes viewing nature but from afar, check out the YouTube channel Africam. Lots of live-streams and feeds of giraffes, lions, hyenas, and a variety of other wildlife. Night-time is when the cameras are most busy, but lots of cool stuff to watch.

I'm glad that lions have returned to Chad. Here's hoping they continue to thrive and humans stay far far away.

Typical cats. Probably napping in a closet the whole time.

I like that even big cats can get in on the fancy paw action poses. I wonder if they can curl up in baskets, too (assuming they had a sufficiently large and string basket).

Good kitty...

Remote sensing like this is going to pave the way for more comprehensive species surveys, and it'll be interesting to see what species we declared extinct are hiding out cleanly away from human activity.

Thanks for posting
