Keep Hope Alive

Happy Pride Month! Joy Oladokun [Wikipedia] makes "positively powerful" country pop [Gay Times UK]. Her new album Proof Of Life [YT playlist] is also being recognized in folk music circles [Joy Oladokun Emerges With a Defiant Hopefulness, Folk Alley]. CBS Mornings has an interview with and primer about Joy and her music. [8m40s, Facebook] Joy sat with Adia Victoria to discuss influential black woman musicians and to perform a song. [7m45s, Newport Festivals]

Another suggestion from the primroses were over. Thanks so much!

Spotify recommended Proof of Life to me a few weeks ago and it is such a delight that I bought the album. I can't wait to dig into the interviews.

I first heard her "Look Up" and "Breathe Again" from an earlier album. She is a ray of light.

I randomly stumbled across a live performance vid of "Look Up" and was hooked immediately and bought her album. I'll also add that her videos are an absolute delight, both her lyrics visualizes and, like, her one with muppets.

Joy Oladokun is delightful and we're all gonna die got me through the last month at my terrible, horrible last job intact, so bless her and Noah Kahan.

Also, stoked to see the Adia Victoria interview included, also a gem of an artist!

I am so far behind on these, but listened to the YouTube playlist and am definitely buying this album as well. Just real nice to listen to, plus I sporadically glanced at the video and was like "oh hey Antone's" and then "... muppets?"

Oooh! She also did a great interview with the New Yorker Radio Hour this past weekend-- It touches on an early experience of seeing Tracy Chapman and asking her parents for a Guitar for Christmas, and she performs a couple songs.

I can tell she's on the upswing because of the venues I can pay to see her at in Asheville. Headlining @ Grey Eagle last year, opening for Noah Kahan tonight @ Rabbit Rabbit, headlining in September @ Orange Peel.
