Beyond Satire

When our plates are cleared, Lit orders an espresso martini. My brain feels hollow but I order a dessert wine, and leave the selection up to the sommelier. For dessert, I choose the pistachio praline with Grand Marnier bavarois, while Lit orders the honey-roasted fig with a whipped yoghurt pavlova. We can hear his cocktail being shaken over the murmurs of the emptying dining room. from Financial ‘meme-lord’ Litquidity: ‘The market is beyond satire. You can’t make it up’ [FT; ungated]

Copied from my FT login: Should've expensed the $445 (including wine) tasting menu, it's ^totes^ why I subscribe to the FT.

I strongly suspect "he" is a woman, and that is why her identity hasn't been exposed. There are too many tells otherwise (sitting in Le Bernardin with this journalist, standing next to Mark Moran at a conference, always being in the bathroom when memes are posted). The finbros are prevented by their own sexism from even considering it.

Litquidity has become such a locus for Wallstreeters that he breaks news about lay-offs and pay cuts (and diminutive bonuses), because followers send him screenshots of internal memos when they land in their inboxes.

FuckedCompany.com may be gone, but I'm glad to see there's a new pud taking up the cause of satirizing and disseminating leaks from mismanaged, overvalued, and generally clueless businesses.

It's good to see the bankers are feeding well.

A culture of bullying is ebbing, for a variety of reasons including public shaming. “[Senior employees] have had no choice but to become more self-aware,” Lit says. “Now, if they send an absurd email that is worded ridiculously or is too harsh, they know more than likely someone will send it to me or other pages, and then we’d post it.”

Is that you, fourth estate? It’s been so long, I didn’t recognise you

Analysts and hedge fundies sometimes seem to communicate almost exclusively in a ping pong of his latest Instagram posts (usually memes, images overlaid with pithy text).

Ahh, Financial Times. A publication whose target audience appreciates a quick refresher on what a 'meme' is.

Metafilter has solved a few other mysteries over the years (frinstance) — can we collectively unmask Litquidity?

Oh, goodness, let's not please.

Why? I see no possible benefit to such an action, to us as a website or to the individual who is Litquidity; I see only potential harm.

Why?
On reflection I withdraw my suggestion.

At one point in time this would be called doxxing. How would this effort not be such?

it'd be like unmasking dril

As a long-time fan who is not a "bro" but is male, you're right, I actually hadn't even considered it but now that you say it I am certain you are right.

It's an interesting theory, but it makes it hard to explain the detail about the reservation being made under the name of "Hank Paulson" when there would be two women sitting at the table. You would think that a woman trying to protect her anonymity wouldn't want to call attention to herself in that way.

1. Some of the details had to be changed for the article. This would hardly be the first time a journalist helped conceal someone's identity.

2. But it even works as a straight fact. Reservation for 3, oops Hank is sick and stayed at home.
