WA's new Indigenous women's ranger team helps threatened golden bandicoot survive. (Text article with photos of cute bandicoots.) After 12 days surveying the bandicoots in remote bushland and a few bee stings, possum bites, and green ant invasions, the rangers returned with impressive results. "We ended up catching 94 individual golden bandicoots over the six nights of live trapping, which is just way above our expectations," AWC's Kimberley regional manager Skye Cameron said. "To see that they're flourishing in this landscape was just really heartwarming."
TIL that there is actually such a thing as a bandicoot!

I always forget the abbreviation for Western Australia is the same as for my state, Washington, and in my sleepy haze I got confused and excited. “Wait, what—we have bandicoots here?? And indigenous rangers to protect them?” Waking to reality is such a disappointment.

I have wild bandicoots living on my property.
They really are the cutest little fellas. Second only in cuteness to the bilby, which don't live in my area.
Cute, but an Australian native critter, therefore quite able to defend themselves. So don't try to grab a wild one and cuddle it.

TIL that Bandicoots are a real animal and not the last name of a video game character.
