Here comes BIG BROTHER! "Since September 11, 2001, the U.S. government has introduced a series of security laws and practices that contradict the core values and principles on which the American government is founded" Once again DISINFO reports the stuff suppressed or under reported by DUBBYAS pawns in the media. If you are a religious or ethnic minority the government thinks is linked with terror or just like to speak your mind this is scary!

Hoopyfrood, I hope you got a free T-shirt for saying that, and that you don't really believe the President controls the national media.

And whatever happened to the old "liberal media" conspiracy?

What on earth are you talking about? AP ran a full story about the Lawyers Committee for Human Rights report the day after it was announced. Reuters included it as a separate development in a story about Jimmy Carter's take on the Iraq war. And discussions about civil liberties have shown up all over the place. You just encourage fewer people to read your links when you post that kind of overstatement, hoopyfrood.

this is scary!

It's also been widely discussed here already!

gottabefunky, I wouldn't dismiss disinfo.com so quickly. They've done some really interesting interviews and have put out two great collections of essays about the holes in all sorts of "official stories."

I think that illusion was shattered during the Clinton-impeachment feeding frenzy. The media isn't liberal, but commercial--even NPR, for all its efforts to seem otherwise

(and has anyone else noticed that the stories on All Things Considered lately have consistently focused on phenomena previously publicized right here on metafilter? Coincidence??)
