Yes. Yes indeed. And he, his family, and all of his executives should be "Nuremburged" for it.

There’s not even going to be any entertaining chaos when he dies, just a smooth tradition to new younger evil. I blame that show you all like for this.

Fascist immigrants shouldn't be this powerful. The USA was a much better place before he got here, all of our foibles included. There are very few people whose graves I'd dance upon, and he is on that Mt. Rushmore.

Oh.

Lachlan is more ideologically extreme than his father, from what I read, responsible for much of the editorial doubling down on white supremacist and anti-vaxxer ideologies at FOX News over the last few years.

I used to say that at least capitalism is better than feudalism, but I wonder if they're all that different in practice.

Fascist immigrants shouldn't be this powerful.

ftfy. I get it, a lot of prominent billionaires immigrated to the US, and many of them retained dual citizenship. But I think calling out the "immigrant" part of this is harmful rhetoric. It's way better to just focus on the fact that billionaires are actively harmful to the interests of the people of the United States, regardless of what country they may have been born in. cf. Donald Trump, proto-fascist par excellence.

Rupert Murdoch worked to foster anti-democratic and anti-leftist values because he is a right bastard, not because he was born in Australia.

Murdoch has poisoned societies he hasn't held citizenship in, the problem goes vastly beyond any changes he's made to his passport.

Harmful even to most of humanity, probably, being a very very very small fraction of us are billionaires and yet they have the unique resources to treat existential crises head on. Not intending to plagiarise Succession, but climate change denialism pushed by FOX News ownership, particularly, will probably end up killing hundreds of millions or even billions of people by the end of the century.

I had to look it up: Lachlan is the right wing one, and James is the one who made a speech about ecological issues a few years back.

So basically, more of the same coming down the tube. This shouldn’t be a surprise: people in the upper classes are often untroubled by anything outside their bubble, which is extremely pro wealth and the people who have it. The fox c-suite is just more obvious about it

Lachlan Murdoch is a very Scottish name. It would only be more Scottish if it were something like Hamish MacHaggis.

But I think calling out the "immigrant" part of this is harmful rhetoric.

It was an intentional use of harmful rhetoric against a hateful propagandist. I get your point, and I don't regret my words, either. I did it on purpose...fascists don't like it when you use their own rhetoric against them.

They don’t give two shits. Being an immigrant or an Elite or a whatever is something that is a problem about other people, not them.

The problem is that you didn't just use it against them, but against every immigrant. This is why hateful bigoted rhetoric is inherently inimical to justice.

You didn't even manage that, mate. As far as people like Murdoch are concerned, only racially suspect people are immigrants. White people are expatriates.

The problem is that you didn't just use it against them, but against every immigrant.

Respectfully, if I meant all immigrants, or every immigrant, I wouldn't have qualified my comment. I thought I was very specific...checks comment...yes. I was quite specific. I'm not really dug in to this argument, like I said, I get the point. I just disagree, and don't have the energy to get into a drawn out argument about "not all x (Australians, immigrants, capitalists, journalists, etc...)" Certainly all fascists, and in the case of Rupert Murdoch, I think it's a relevant detail.

As far as people like Murdoch are concerned, only racially suspect people are immigrants. White people are expatriates.

That's an interesting point. Fascist expatriates works for me, too.

...but that also has semantic and rhetorical significance, in terms of changing the idea. I'm not willing to cede the meaning of words to fascists.

re: I'm not willing to cede the meaning of words to fascists.

I know you don’t mean it in a bad way, but I think it’s worth discussing anyway.

The problem with descriptors like fascist immigrants is that there’s an implication of "fascist because immigrant" or "all those damned fascist immigrants" which are perfectly valid readings of the phrase. Immigrants are one of those groups constantly attacked by, well, fascists and racists. So there’s a context there.

Fascist is a common stereotype of immigrants from and in a number countries. I’ve rarely had a Fox News type call me bad names directly (although I have been called a dumb or dirty immigrant before) ... but the number of times I’ve encountered micro aggressions in my encounters with educated people about racism/fascism/anti-semitism based on my origin I cannot count.

I hope this isn’t a derail, I mean, we are talking about Fox News here. They love to abuse ambiguity. "I don’t mean those people" is the unofficial motto of Fox News and their viewership.

That's fair. Being less economical with words, all I meant to convey was that an Australian-born, fascist news mogul moved to the USA and created the largest, most devastating propaganda outlet in history. A large portion of his influence has been demonizing immigrants, a group to which he belongs.
