Curious Curios

“I am still Matt, this is still Web Curios, and you could probably do with some interesting links and internet ephemera to take the edge off so, well, here you are.”

About: “Web Curios is a weekly roundup of stuff that its author – that is, me – has found interesting online over the past 7 days, and thinks worth sharing with its small readership. Web Curios has no real curatorial theme, beyond ‘stuff that its author thinks is interesting’, which may in part explain its steadfast refusal to grow beyond a very niche concern despite its preposterous longevity.”

Old-school GYOBnewslettertypething chugs along, as it has since 2010! Not everything here will be for everyone, but there’s something of interest in every hand-picked collection.

Fcuking lovely to see this here--I don't even know how long I've been subscribed to this guy, but he absolutely has his own, recognizable link-sharing voice.

I'm also usually in the mood for his music mix selections by the time Friday rolls around.

I was really happy to see dng’s An Abundance of Beasts in a recent Web Curios post!

Damnit, I thought it was Matthowie, put up a blog since his old blog isn't his anymore, but no.

And then, I got in here and read "its author -- that is, me --" and now I'm thinking "Holy smokes! Monkey Toes has got her a blog up for us! Hurray!" and now I'm all smiley and hand-wavy and hooting (almost), I'm about to start to spin in circles like the dog does when you come in but no, it's not Monkey Toes, either; it's just some stranger."

Heck ...

Not only does “Matt” continually find scores of glimmering ingots weekly, his writing is pointed, funny as fcuk and unlike some others, he never comes across as a bottomless pit of ambition who’s simply looking for validation thru padding his follower count. His curated collections are largely targeted to adverMarketingPRDesignPRtech people but a must read for anyone looking to stay slightly ahead and not content being a dulled eyed dimwit forever scrolling TikTok.

Can someone help me with the image at the top of the main Web Curios page? I'm guessing it is an AI attempt to visibly represent the physical act of love. I'd be happy to be proven wrong. Or maybe it's the world's most vicious Rorschach test. It's hurting my brain in either case.

No idea, Abehammerb Lincoln, but my pet theory is that he fed the Andrew Marvell line "my vegetable love" into an AI image generator. (Honestly, I don't want to know.)

Possibly a digital collage by Anthony Gerace.

Hi everyone, thanks for all the nice words, I am very touched. If you're curious, the header image on the Curios site is from a project my friend Shardcore did a few years ago (2017-20) called 'The Machine Gaze' which is VERY NSFW and frankly a bit horrible (in an interesting way).
