They have named this creature Tyrannosaurus mcraeensis, after the McRae Formation where it was discovered.

I was hoping for T. regina.

I was hoping for T. regina.

It probably won't happen, but I have heard the occasional murmur that T. Rex should be renamed T. Regina, based on the findings that females were likely larger than males.

To be honest, I had no idea they were still making new ones.

I was hoping for T. regina.

According to my extensive Wikipedia research, there are some people that argue for there being three species in the genus Tyrannosaurus, namely T. imperator, T. rex, and T. regina. (This is in addition to the T. mcraeensis in the article.)

Also sometimes I call my daughter Tyrannosaurus regina when she is pretending to be a dinosaur, but that's not Serious Research.
