Yesterday, mobile game developer Hit-Point quietly announced Neko Atsume 2, coming this summer to Android and iOS.
Meanwhile, the original Neko Atsume: Kitty Collector is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year.

Oh man, I was super into Neko Atsume for awhile but once I got all the stuff, I gave it up. Will they pull me back in? Only time will tell.

never played the original but i remember my social sphere on twitter being really into it around the time it came out.
from memory--and folks can correct me if i'm wrong--wasn't part of the appeal of the original game that it was untranslated and therefore the arrival of cats felt wondrous to folks who were playing the game but didn't understand the language it was written in? it simulated the 'cat distribution system' before the term became popular.

with this, Stardew Valley 1.6, and the Factorio expansion, it's looking like a good gaming year for me.

I'm still regulary playing the same game (with all the updates) for about nine years now.
For a while I started setting arbitrary targets like getting the silver fish to count up 123,456, amd gold fish to count down 10,987. Or try to get all album covers to be face plants or paw cleaning (a few still haven't that I've seem). That kind of thing.
I forced myself to cut down from checking the kittens multiple times a day, to now typically just a few times a week. So my gifted fish is currently about 350,000 silver and 22,000 gold.
I was very excited to see three new goodies in the latest update just 2 days ago (including a new cardboard train, and a cat balloon it took hours for one of them to start playing with).
So yes, I am definitely excited for a full new version 2!
