LiMu Emu (and Doug) get dirty. [SLYT] Saturday Night Live cut this sketch for time but you should make some time to watch it.

God I hate those ads. This is really great.

In 2019 Shane Gillis was fired from SNL after saying that he would not stop making racist and homophobic jokes.

In 2024 Shane Gillis is invited to host SNL after getting sponsored by Bud Light. Wild world.

Fun bit though.

No idea who Shane Gillis is. Off to wikipedia

its interesting (perhaps not to you) that since i've never ever ever heard or seen this LiMu thing before, this is effectively the same as an advertisement and i clicked out as soon as i recognized a "brand"

sorry i'm such a bore

Advertising is a huge chunk of insurance company's budget because all insurance is basically the same and the only differentiation is from advertising!

Darn. Should have put this after "Trump Sneakers" instead of the game show sketch. Would have been a strong first half. That's what I would have done if I was Lorne Michaels. Maybe that would have been too many non-live sketches in a row. I don't know. I don't work in television. I just watch it.

That laugh track reminded me of another reason why I haven't watched SNL in decades.

FanFare discussion of this episode (not this sketch, as it was cut) but with some context nonetheless.

It is parody advertisement. LiMu and Doug are Liberty insurance 'cops' who provide people with insurance- the ads are basically the lines of dialogue the person in the skit says, except without "the Emu is a dirty cop" plot point. From that aspect, turning them into dirty cops is kind of cheap and lazy, but it's not that bad for a SNL throwaway skit.

I had no idea who this guy was. Fascist creep. One more reason to be done with SNL.

I disagree. Turning the emu into a dirty cop is neither "cheap" nor "lazy." Turning Doug into one might be though I'm not sure what would impress you in a Liberty Mutual parody commercial.

(The "Jake from State Farm" sketch linked by NotMyselfRightNow above is quite clever.)

It's 2024, not 1982. The Emu should have done something with ACAB, or straight racist, or was jittery and shot him just because.

Maybe, but the Liberty Mutual commercials are a goof on the ‘70s-‘80s buddy cop genre. Cocaine was popular back then!

Ahh, you think it should've had a Message. Like: Doug could've been the one doing the shooting. Or framing the Black Emu for the crime. That wouldn't have been "cheap" or "lazy" for you.
