"If you're happy and you know it, bomb Iraq!" (clap clap) A little song for you. Add your own verses! Pass it along! Now, the serious stuff: "advanced forms of biological warfare that can "target" specific genotypes may transform biological warfare from the realm of terror to a politically useful tool." - from the fanatic ravings of Al-Qaeda terrorists? From the movie "Dr. Strangelove"? NOT. It's from "Rebuilding Americaâ??s Defenses: Strategy, Forces and Resources For a New Century" (page 72), a report by the think tank "Project for The New American Century" which sets forth the Gotterdammerung-ish GLOBAL STRATEGIC VISION (!) of key members of the Bush adminstration. Richard Perle sums it up: "This is total war. We are fighting a variety of enemies. There are lots of them out there...If we just let our vision of the world go forth, and we embrace it entirely, and we don't try to piece together clever diplomacy but JUST WAGE A TOTAL WAR, OUR CHILDREN WILL SING GREAT SONGS ABOUT US YEARS FROM NOW." Amen, bro. (clap clap)

Picture Keanu Reeves reading Richard Perle's part in the movie version: "This is total war, dude. We are fighting... a variety... of enemies. There are lots of them out there...what do you do?"

To divert public attention
From the doings of your henchmen
To divert public attention bomb Iraq

Too close to home, too near the bone, all that.

If you're loaded and you know it chug some oil! (clap clap)

If you've got-a-nuke and could blow it chug some oil! (clap clap)

If you're country's defense budget is half your taxes (when you fudge it!), if you love Texas then don't smudge it, chug some oil!

I thought we were going after some guy with a beard? What happened to him? Did the Special forces get lost in the intricate cave network? So now we're going after a bigger threat who should have been knocked out in '91. If Bush Snr. couldn't get to him, how is our linguistically challenged young cowboy going to do it? :)

A Village Voice article from November 2001 attributes the "total war" comment to "Iran-Contra luminary Michael Ledeen," not Richard Perle. (Scroll to the end of the article.) The comment was made at a panel moderated by Perle.

It’s a reprehensible view, but those don't appear to be Perle's words.

Robert Kristol
Robert Killebrew
Robert Kagan
Fred Kagan
Donald Kagan, Fred's dad
Dan Goure - the 8:00 Wed. Speaker
David Fautua - halfway down the page
David Epstein - in yellow and blue

I stopped looking after this; anyone who cares to continue the roll-call is welcome to. As far as I can see, I haven't come up against any "key members of the Bush adminstration."

I think W is a moron and a joke, but I don't think you can fairly link him to a document mainly composed by blowhards, lecturers, and armchair generals.
