Truth.org hacked. I'm generally against smocking. Well, entirely against smocking, I guess I'm not the only one who finds those condescending ads obnoxious. (site is now a free for all chatroom, with some porn thrown in for good mesure.)
This post was deleted for the following reason:
Not even remotely work safe, for those who might get to this link tomorrow. My eyeballs are burning. I saw a split-second of what looked like STD photos at the page's bottom & other horrifying stuff before sprinting for the back button.

I ended up having to ctrl-alt-del out of there. That page jammed up my browsers.

[sarcasm]You'd think people would show some self control if they found a forum to post whatever they want...[/sarcasm]
Yeh, this hack is definitely not worksafe, I just saw a decapitated head or something. I'm gonna be staring at pictures of flowers and kitty before the stuff I saw from this link burns into my mind.

Whoa...paranoia pays. I just ran Ad-Aware after foolishly clicking on the link - 197 new components found in the registry. I am also running an anti-virus search now...can never be too safe. That's what I get for watching a train wreck.

Why is this brand of forum (see also poo.com, smile.com) so godawfully addictive to watch and mock? There's magic here.

Wow, what a great hack -- except that the anti-smocking folks are still just where they always have been, at thetruth.com, and evidence from the Wayback Machine indicates that this other site, truth.org, has been exactly like this for at least two years.

I just didn't like seeing "What's up MetaFilter" on there. Either someone is being unruly, or they know they've been linked to us and are trying to fuck us somehow.

delmoi,
You might consider being more selective with what you post. It seems like you may have screwed up some peoples machines.
I'm glad I quickly realized what the kind of "hack" this was and that I have the back button programmed on my mouse.
My personal favorite was the RIAA hack that actually had downloadable MP3 files on their site. Now that's good stuff.

Ad-Aware scan 2 hours before visiting site: 0 components
Ad-Aware scan 15 minutes after visiting site: 0 components
I did not receive any unwanted "gifts" there, but YMMV.
It exists within the realm of the possible that those existed before you visited the site. *shrug*

truth.org has been registered since May 25, 1997.
thetruth.com, which is the domain that the "the truth" people usually advertise, has been registered since November 22, 1995.
Methinks it's not a hack. Just a site that happened to experience a minor namespace collision with another, more well-known one.

Yeah...I guess I have to stop letting my peers surf the internet on my computer now, or even let them on it. The cause and effect was just too easy to make. Damn...time to get the separate logins out again So much for being trusty...

But he had that cool racoon hat, kept me entertained on the Wonderful World of Disney, and fought at the Alamo.
If there are five words I'll remember to the day that I die, it's either "are we having fun yet" from that Nickelback song that never stops getting played, or it's REMEMBER.THE.FUCKING.ALAMO.MAN. For the purposes of this thread, I think the second might apply, at least as far as my tangential comments go.

Anything that the silly site does to your machine is something that any other site could do. I.E. If you are using some busted ass browser and haven't installed any security patches, it's going to bite you in the ass sooner or later. Surfing into a L33t Hax0R brag page is a great way to stress test your browser security.
