Christ.

Can we stop with the iPod posts? I am really sick of being freaking advertised to.
posted by xmutex at 11:01 AM on December 13, 2004

that's not worth $20.

ipod christianity ad - Jesus was downloaded so that you could be uploaded [self link, but it's a funny picture and a rather strange ad]
posted by dabitch at 11:04 AM on December 13, 2004

advertisements go on the right sidebar please, like everyone else.
posted by outsider at 11:05 AM on December 13, 2004

don't read it, xmutex. christ.
posted by keswick at 11:06 AM on December 13, 2004

you can do this with photoshop
posted by Hands of Manos at 11:08 AM on December 13, 2004

This is not a don't-read-it post. This is damned advertisment. It's obnoxious.
posted by xmutex at 11:08 AM on December 13, 2004

true hands off manos, here's an ipod a photo tutorial.
posted by dabitch at 11:10 AM on December 13, 2004

don't read his comment, keswick. jeebus.

you get my point, eh?

I'd just like to share one of the best magazine covers I've seen in years...

Great. Is it OK if I submit this one for iPoding?
posted by soyjoy at 11:16 AM on December 13, 2004

nice, busithoth
posted by scarabic at 11:17 AM on December 13, 2004

I should add that Jest is a great magazine throughout.
posted by Busithoth at 11:20 AM on December 13, 2004

Hm. Sorry for offending you Mutex. I thought this was quaint and might be the kind of thing Metafilter would find interesting. Full disclosure - I don't own an ipod nor do I care about the ads. But if you do find it so obnoxious, I suggest to take it to the grey rather than shouting about in here.

What, there's human intervention behind the generation? -- it sucks.

> Great. Is it OK if I submit this one for iPoding?

Better yet. The PS'ed one where they're made to be part of a bad, complete with mic, keyboard, guitar and a DK tagged on the wall.

charging 20 smackers, violating copyright and a zero-tolerance return policy?

... these clowns will be down in an instant.
posted by brucec at 12:20 PM on December 13, 2004

Man, they're not even doing a stupid idea well.

Oh, and soyjoy, I've seen the Ruby/Oswald photo iPoded a thousand times.
posted by Optimus Chyme at 12:24 PM on December 13, 2004

why the fuck would anyone pay $20 to turn a personal keepsake into advertising?

the fact that people will illustrates perfectly what a hypnotized horde of slavering consumerist lackies we all are.
posted by quonsar at 12:28 PM on December 13, 2004

Whoa! I didn't get far enough to be told I'd have to pay $20 for this. This is just a color mask in PS.

This is some dormroom idea taken flight. nice hobby, I suppose...

I second the "enough with the iPod garbage" sentiment of xmutex.

Oh, you have not. You exaggerate every single word you say.

Thirded.

This sucks.

You got me. I've only seen it twice.

If this was free it would be an almost decent post.
posted by Space Coyote at 3:51 PM on December 13, 2004

Hey. It's silly. It's interesting. I looked, scoffed, and moved on much the way I do with many posts. Good post!

The same people who get branded clothing....

If this was free it would be an almost decent post.

Dunno... we link to eBay all the time, which is all about commerce, if for no other reason than to point out some odd thing people are selling. This is something like that...

Not me, I want to know all about all of the latest gadgets to make my iPod even more enviable! I want a mount in my car that lets it sit above the dash so everyone can see it.

More iPodFilter! There isn't any other place that this sort of information can be found, is there?

Oh wait. Nevermind.
posted by fenriq at 4:53 PM on December 13, 2004

Weston, you have noticed how well the last couple of eBay fpp's have gone, haven't you? Perhaps those aren't the best examples to select from.
posted by fenriq at 4:54 PM on December 13, 2004

Huh. I've always wondered what kind of work I'd be doing if I answered one of those "get rich quick" ads. Now I know.
posted by jennak at 4:57 PM on December 13, 2004

First I say hoorah to the iPod backlash, it's about time. Second what copyright issues are being violated here? Um none. Parody my friend.
posted by zeoslap at 5:21 PM on December 13, 2004

What parody? They're just propagating the ad campaign as is. I can't charge you money to put the Nike swoosh on your clothing with the words "just do it." That's exactly what's going on here. And for money, which is the key point. That's not copyright kosher. Of course, it's all in the vein of spreading the iPod love, so I wouldn't be surprised to see Apple look the other way.
posted by scarabic at 6:26 PM on December 13, 2004

Apple Records should buy this thing. And make anti-iPod ads. And then the IP suits shall fly like snow in a blizzard. Huzzah!
posted by thecaddy at 7:05 PM on December 13, 2004

My first though: Hmm.... that's kinda cool I guess. If it looks easy to do I might spend 5 minutes trying to get it to work.

My second thought: Who the fuck is going to spend $20 on that shit? Fuck that.

Who the fuck is going to spend $20 on that shit?

Walmart shopping red state tards. That's who.

Now I know what to do with all that pr0n I have stored on my servers....

I somehow doubt that "Walmart shopping red state tards" are the target market for iPods and its related accessories.
posted by trey at 8:13 AM on December 14, 2004

pfft. if you don't like what they're doing, shell out the $20, send 'em goatse and demand that they get to work.
