Look at waltzing matilda; Its about a bloke trying to get a nice bit of lamb into his tucker bag not spicy chicken wings

This is my first FPP and yes, the first advert does cut out like that on regular TV.

Those are just brilliant commercials. Offensive, but very Australian.

Reminds me of a set of commercials Hoyt Axton did for Pizza Hut ~20 years ago: "You know they're now saying that spaghetti comes from China? Well, pizza comes from Oklahoma. The cultural center of the universe."

Don't you mean "offensive, and very Australian"?

Wait... there's a different Australia every year? That must be very confusing.

And if you're the parent of a toddler in the U.S., you probably know it's Australia Day because of the special episodes of "The Wiggles" and "The Koala Brothers."

Hahaha...

"The Outback is the dessert in the middle part of the country"

I never knew the Outback was a dessert. I've been out there and there's just sand.

Maybe I missed the giant Pavlova?

Big Day Out organisers would like to advise all ticket holders for this Wednesday’s sold out Sydney event (Sydney Showground, Olympic Park), that NSW Police officers will be patrolling the show entrance and Olympic Park Station to ensure that no illegal substances are brought into the event.

Our understanding is that the NSW Police service will be utilising sniffer dogs. Big Day Out would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused by this on the day.
----------
I like that they apologise for the "inconvenience" of the drug dogs being around.

Happy Australia Day!

Um. Australia Day is January 26th. (As you will discover if you follow the first link.)

(Bloody Americans.)

(I spoze if you're posting from Australia it's already the 26th there, but look at the date stamp on that FPP! It's a National Embarrassment!)

Yeah, rdc, I noticed the date issue too, but figured it was indeed the 26th in Australia. I don't think Talez meant any offense.

Funny thing is that most people in oz couldn't give a shit about oz day. Yet it's the biggest annual event in Whistler (the Canadian ski resort) where probably half the labourers there are aussies.

As for the 25th/26th thing, the FPP was posted at 02:14 AM on the 26th, Sydney local time.
posted by randomstriker at 1:10 PM on January 25, 2005

Or in my case, 00:14AM on the 26th, Perth local time.

A Happy Australia Day, or days, to all those identifiable as OZ. Those of you who did not have enough pride to fill in the location blank on the user page may be mistaken for Yanks.

Too right! Drug dogs are unAustralian.

...almost as unAustralian as the expression "unAustralian".

This year there has been a distinct lack of drunkards shouting "Aussie Aussie Aussie! Oi Oi Oi!". And I am extremely grateful.

Word. Spent the day at the RSL, we had lamb on a spit and way too much beer. It was about 200 degrees centigrade with cricket on the small TV over the bar and tennis on the giant screen. Plenty of mates, a good day.

I just peeled myself of the couch after 'falling asleep'.
