Wasn't there a conspiracy theory going around about this happening? Isn't John McCain supposed to step in? Is the Neiman Marcus cookie recipe involved?

I can imagine James Baker in front of a mirror in a hotel in Tallahassee right now, practicing his Alexander Haig imitation...

Hey, kids, let's put on a show! Who says musicals are dead? Now casting a "Wizard of Oz" remake: Dick Cheney as the Tin Man (who only suffers heart trouble in election years), George W. Bush as the Scarecrow (and his dog as Toto), James Baker as the Cowardly Lion, Katherine Harris as Dorothy (unless you prefer the beleaguered Theresa LePore, who probably definitely wishes she were in Kansas rightaboutnow), Dan Rather (and his homegrown witticisms) or Bernard Shaw as the Wizard, Al Gore (the first debate Al, sporting the makeup, the sighs and the schoolmarm sexual persona) as the Wicked Witch of the West ... durnit, I'm fresh out o' names ...

How about Linda Tripp?

Tripp should play Glinda, if only 'cause I wanna see Linda haul her ass up in that soap bubble thing-y...

Ralph Nader as the good witch (notice that incorporates the "gay Nader" rumors); Browne, Haeglin, Buchanan as the munchkins; they follow the chad-lined road to the District of O.Z.; the winged monkies are the hordes of journalists;

Here's a copy of the original e-mail that I received. Slate and Salon ran small blurbs on it, too.

Whoops. That message board post above is just a reprint of this Slate story.

Thanks waxpancake, I thought I was losing my mind. It certainly did sound eerily familiar.

And as for the Wizard of Oz casting choices, I would like to see Bill Daley as one of the Wicked Witch's guards. He has that grumpy look about him "O-E-O"
