It's a split Senate. Democrat Maria Cantwell has been confirmed as the winner of the close Washington Senate race, thus bringing the Senate count to an even 50-50 split. And for 17 days, the Democrats will have a majority of sorts.

Which could be a critical majority, given circumstances. Of course, if they use it, they'll be accused of illegal partisanship, but if the Florida legislature chooses electors, well, they're just reflecting the 0.0001% mandate of the people.

I'd missed that Cantwell had a political career (US House) before her stint at Real Networks.

i'm all for waiting 'til the whole rigamarole is over but we come up with a democratic congress and the next time rounds dem pres, i'll be pretty happy. I'm just aiming the snipers to fire after cheney's next heart attack
