It's a dumb website where he showcases "money" that would exist if we lived in "the united states of islam."

Basically it has women from U.S. history dressed up in burkhas on it - because that's what it would be like if da trrrsts took over. And other stupid shit.

The self-link is brazen and unfortunate, but how is this material hateful? I think it's all rather interesting. The dream tokens are kinda cool, if a little cavalier. Same with the Antartica dollars.
posted by undule at 5:24 PM on January 16, 2006

I think the Saladin print looks cool - this has nothing to do with any implied politics. I'd take out the discarded oil barrels though.

Flyboy, you are a talented artist, but you lose points with me by referring to your business as "this incredible new site" without providing full disclosure.
posted by b_thinky at 5:24 PM on January 16, 2006

Thanks, cortex. I remember that this forum is liberal groupthink headquarters. I remember when liberals fought against human rights violations, and fought for women's rights. No more, sadly.

Now, to satirize oppressive governments gets you called a hatemonger. You must remember that Islam is a political entity as much as a religious one. And the behavior of those theocratic governments affect Muslims and non-Muslims alike. I criticize the Taliban and you call ME a hatemonger? I can only imagine that you are ignorant of that regime's deeds.

I just want to open the discussion beyond the officially condoned Politically Correct talking points, but I see the Left has no interest in intelligent discussion. Just name calling.

No worries, folks, I have no more interest in inviting you to expand your moral or intellectual horizons. I will not post here again. There are other places that are able to talk about politics, not shout.

I'll admit to having posted my comment before checking out the link. It's good art. Do post it to projects later. You may end up needing a new account though depending on whether this one gets banned for the self-link.

MeFis can pile on dissenters, but that's not what this is about. I read the rules of metafilter the day I joined. I think it says something about no self-linking. I suspect you read this as well and I believe you blatantly ignored this rule. I would venture to guess that a large percentage of the metafilter community has something to self link to, and yet I've never seen it happen.

Like I said before, I like your art, you seem like a talented artist, but that post was unethical and to cover it up as you're doing only hastens the point.

Stephen Barnwell is possibly the most miserable creature ever to roam the earth. It's a rare creature that can fail to understand his mistakes on such a fundamental level.

The vile beast lashes out horribly when his shortcomings are noticed, for he would rather say the whole world is wrong than admit that he broke the rules.

There was talk of a quest to slay this horrid beast, Stephen Barnwell, but then the warriors realized it was crueler to let the wretched thing live.

Some say that Stephen Barnwell still roams the woods, self-linking, and drinking the blood of freshly squeezed kittens.

Besides, I don't listen to the hatemongers on here (like balrog). My work has sold quite well to Muslims here in the US and in the ME. Some people appreciate political humor.

Stephen Barnwell, why don't you answer a simple question before taking refuge in your oh-so-politically incorrect excuse: Why did you ignore one of the most obvious guidelines here? Why, Stephen Barnwell, did you see fit to self-promote your own site at MeFi, when the site guidelines clearly say that's not allowed?

In short, Stephen Barnwell, why did you see fit to take a huge steaming dump in the middle of our living room? Stephen Barnwell, there are only two choices here: either you are an ass, or you are an idiot - one so excited to self-link your own work that you somehow managed to miss the huge message against self-linking on the posting page. So which is it? Is Stephen Barnwell an ass or an idiot?
