The Roy D Mercer character can be mildly amusing if, as I did, you grew up with people precisely like him. Prank calls get pretty old pretty fast though.
Also, who the heck is Bill Goldberg?

Is Roy Mercer another one of thos guys who acts all southern to play to red state audiences but actually is from Nebraska, went to private school and moved to Florida when he was 16?

I haven't thought about Goldberg in at least 5 years. Thanks for ruining my streak.

Nope. I'm pretty sure Roy is a fictional character created by 2 Tulsa DJs.

Well, he's not related to me. But my parents used to tell me that I was related to Whoopi.

Do you perceive some inconsistency there? All the people I've met from Nebraska are "Southern" in all meaningful regards.

If, like myself, you're from the bustling metropolis of Tulsa, Oklahoma, then you remember Roy Mercer when he was nothing but a lame prank call voice used by two DJ's on a local classic rock station.
Heck, I remember listening to his early morning rants on my way to school . . . It's pretty strange to see the old boy on MetaFilter. It really is a small world.
