Nilly looks like a combination between a Matt Groening bunny and Lambchops. Awesome.

Pretty cute, better than Barbies, but I don't really understand this trend of Uglydolls etc.

Tiny cthulu-esque clay sea gods.

Ugly is the new cute.

I think we should license our usernames for these.

My metric for a successful post: one in which I can get both OmieWise and Wolfdog to comment. Score.

These are way more plush and are very cute monsters, suitable even for kids.

(disclaimer: maker is a former friend who does amazing things with her artistic skills...I know her, but I have no part in her business and we don't even really associate anymore, so this is completely unbiased)

I am reminded of Giant Microbes.

As a kid, I had a secret, guilty hatred of the hideous sock monkeys some of my relatives saw fit to bestow on my household. I would have liked these so much more.

Western Infidels: Agreed! I liked sock monkeys but never had one, and still would have liked these more.

I LOVE the giant microbes. I believe I still have the plague.

I wish Accoutrements had stuck with their Parasite Pals....you can sometimes find the stationary, but it's hard to find the dolls themselves.

Western Infidels, my 12-year-old daughter loves giant microbes--she has three, I think.

I found these a while ago & just recently bought one... I love him & will have to get him a friend soon. She does amazing stuff.

Weird seeing this here since I grew up with Jenny Strunge in Baltimore and I believe she is still dating a friend of mine from back in the day. Really nice girl...buy some stuff, people!

The ugly/kawaii trend somehow strikes me as very Japanese. Is there a word for it (it Japanese or any other language)?

My friend was recently given a darling little blue bear with giant menacing claws--it utterly mystified him. So much so, that he passed it along to me, hooray!

Squid Voltaire: Have you seen what Gloomy Bear does, when he's not being a cute lil toy?
posted by batmonkey at 1:53 PM on September 18, 2007

I'm a vinyl toy collector; Gloomy Bear has a few vinyl variants, including a couple extra boodly ones.
posted by Laura in Canada at 2:04 PM on September 18, 2007

that would be bloody, bot boodly.
posted by Laura in Canada at 2:05 PM on September 18, 2007

But boodly is cuter!
