One thing I have learned in my life: When you build a cool website, make sure you load test it.

Ack! It was working fine in preview. I guess it can't handle the popularity of becoming a MeFi post. I've emailed the Matt, Jess and Cortex.

without the "the" lol... I was going to say "the admins" but I wanted to make it clear that I emailed OUR admins, not the FPP site's admins.

I love things like this. Is there maybe a google cache?

Here's the cached version. Is it navigable?

Sorry folks, I haven't heard back from the admins yet. Maybe we can coordinate ourselves so that we only try to access the site in an orderly fashion, since their servers obviously weren't designed for mass interest.

Or, we could while away the time posting our own maxims. I appropriated a Fran Lebowitz quote as my personal maxim when I was first learning to deal with insomnia: "Life is what happens when you can't get to sleep."

I've learned that the quickest way to kill off what sounds like a lovely little fledgling website is to FPP it and overwhelm its server.

I like the idea of posting our own maxims, though...I have devoted much of my life to travel and I try hard to maintain the "take nothing but photos, leave nothing but footprints" idea.

It won't get better if you pick it. Words to live by.

Consciousness is the time between naps. You share a similarity with all other living things, anti-entropy via chemical reactions... order from chaos, welcome to life.

It's astonishing in this world how things don't turn out at all the way you expect them to.

Thanks so much to those of you who have played along while I wait to hear something from the admins... I figured they would need to delete it if there was no alternative way to make the site viewable. But now I'm getting a little worried, it's been almost two hours and they haven't responded. Either they've all been kidnapped, or they're all asleep, or they all have hot dates, or...?

The two things I've definitely learned so far:

1. Society, for all of it's faults, is proof that the whole can be greater than the sum of it's parts.

2. There are a lot of different types of drunks, and you never know which type you'll be dealing with until they're there.

Quoted for truth.

Reminds me of the adage: "If you sober up a cattle rustler, you've still got a cattle rustler"... People reveal their true selves whether drunk or sober, but sometimes their drunkenness makes it more clear.
