All doubts were unfounded. The 35.2-meter jump distance was the first Softslide practice test with real people under real conditions. I think the last doubters now the words are missing.

For real or an elaborate hoax? Perhaps our Germanic physicist friends can unravel the science behind das projekt megawoosh.

Supposedly a hoax, but in any case, it's just a viral ad for Microsoft.

Indeed.

Hoax, and a commercial to boot.

the dief, are you suggesting that this little bit of viral video has been posted by a Microsoft employee?

This post is a little too punktlanded.

I don't doubt it, but why is it a viral ad for Microsoft? What about it makes me associate it with Microsoft Project in any way?

The logos and screenshots on the site?

The big "Microsoft Project" logo at the top of the main link?

LITTLEROBOTHEAD stands up in the trench. He realizes that all of his MeFi buddies have been astroturfed. As the smoke clears, we see him slowly stand up as waves of fears and revulsion wash over him. As the CRACKLE of small arms fire is heard in the distance, he begins trying to drag one of his faceless comrades from the smoking foxhole. He puts one foot on the edge of the earthworks, and looks toward the rear of his position...

                              LITTLEROBOTHEAD: (screams) MOD!

The MODS, a rag tag band of lifesavers in bloodied uniforms run toward the CARNAGE, composing in their heads the notes they will attach when the post is deleted. As the MODS go to work, we slowly zoom out and up into the sky...where a solitary bi-plane piloted by MATHOWIE slowly zig-zags in red and purple clouds.

MATHOWIE: (shaking fist) You dirty spammers! I read your book!

FADE TO BLACK

Er, for the record, I don't work for Microsoft, or its associates. The video is more enjoyable - in my view - for having to work out that it's fake, how it's fake and why on earth this is supposed to make you go out and buy MS Project.

Needs the Megawoosh tag.

It's a joke about the old song, damn it.
Do you know the muffin man,
The muffin man, the muffin man,
Do you know the muffin man,
Who lives in Drury Lane?

Yes I know the muffin man,
The muffin man, the muffin man,
Yes I know the muffin man,
Who lives in Drury Lane?

DU: "The big "Microsoft Project" logo at the top of the main link?"

[Google logo]
[Two guys one cup video]

Is that all it takes to advertise something nowadays? A logo and a video of anything? What if someone reposts your viral video (which is whole point of "viral")? Shouldn't a viewer somehow be able to figure out what your product is? Those Ray-Ban guys were at least throwing sunglasses around. Or does Microsoft Project involve a slip and slide somehow? (It's been a while since I used it.)

Wow. Not one line, and yet the guy still manages to overact.

Lame.

Handheld shakycam + zoomed out + small particle, easy enough to render + zooming in only after the "feat" is accomplished = fake video.

It's like people aren't even trying anymore, they're just doing that same stupid effect over and over again.

While it looks professionally done (too professionally, possibly, for such bad shot framing for showing detail) and is impressive for the fakery, I'm finding it hard to imagine too many people over the age of 13 seeing that as real.

Maybe I'm too cynical, but surely enough people understand and can visualise how fast things fall to laugh in the face of the prescribed acceleration on the slide and how far he went? Is the whole point of it that it is fake, but looks fairly convincing? Like a double bluff?

Yeah, I'm not really suggesting MuffinMan works at MS. I just wanted to engage in a bit of doggerel.

The sounds are all off too. The swimming pool would need to be miked to produce such a loud splash from that distance.
