"The day forever fortunate has arrived, which the French people have consecrated to the Supreme Being. Never has the world which He created offered to Him a spectacle so worthy of His notice. He has seen reigning on the earth tyranny, crime, and imposture. He sees at this moment a whole nation, grappling with all the oppressions of the human race, suspend the course of its heroic labors to elevate its thoughts and vows toward the great Being who has given it the mission it has undertaken and the strength to accomplish it.

Is it not He whose immortal hand, engraving on the heart of man the code of justice and equality, has written there the death sentence of tyrants? Is it not He who, from the beginning of time, decreed for all the ages and for all peoples liberty, good faith, and justice?

He did not create kings to devour the human race. He did not create priests to harness us, like vile animals, to the chariots of kings and to give to the world examples of baseness, pride, perfidy, avarice, debauchery, and falsehood. He created the universe to proclaim His power. He created men to help each other, to love each other mutually, and to attain to happiness by the way of virtue.

Also, I must add that the pies made by Mme. Destournes of the Rue Montorgueil are of such savour and deliciousness that there is no quantity of them I would not happily consume with the utmost relish. I thank you Desmond of St German for your question."

He was my seantor for awhile. I personally thanked Art Small for running against him in 2004. But it was Art's spasmodic dysphonia against Grassley's avuncular gravel, which made it no contest amongst the hayseeds.

If you need any evidence he's a prat, check out his voting record. Greatest hits include:

Rated 0% by NARAL, indicating a pro-life voting record. (Dec 2003)
Rated 0% by the LCV, indicating anti-environment votes. (Dec 2003)
Rated 100% by the Christian Coalition: a pro-family voting record. (Dec 2003)
Rated 83% by CATO, indicating a pro-free trade voting record. (Dec 2002)
Rated 25% by CURE, indicating anti-rehabilitation crime votes. (Dec 2000)
Voted NO on favoring 1997 McCain-Feingold overhaul of campaign finance. (Oct 1997)
Voted NO on banning "soft money" contributions and restricting issue ads. (Mar 2002)
Rated 0% by APHA, indicating a anti-public health voting record. (Dec 2003)
Rated 0% by SANE, indicating a pro-military voting record. (Dec 2003)
Rated 100% by USBC, indicating a sealed-border stance. (Dec 2006)
Rated 0% by the AFL-CIO, indicating an anti-union voting record. (Dec 2003)
Rated 0% by the AU, indicating opposition to church-state separation. (Dec 2006)
Rated 0% by the ARA, indicating an anti-senior voting record. (Dec 2003)
Rated 0% by the CTJ, indicating opposition to progressive taxation. (Dec 2006)

Hey, a disclosures section!
Section 5. Information about relevant nonfinancial associations.

[X] Yes, the following relevant nonfinancial relationships/conditions/circumstances are present (explain below):

Senator Grassley receives campaign donations from a variety of sources, possibly including health care interests. However, his
campaign operations and his senatorial operations are completely separate. This piece and the opinions herein are solely the product

Why yes, I suppose it might be possible that Chuck is getting some of the sweet, sweet health care moneys. Lemmesee here... [OpenSecrets.org breakdown of campaign donations]
