Canada is sex?

One Nation Under Sex. Pornographer and free speech activist Larry Flynt is no stranger to politics, hypocritical politicians, or to writing books on same. But his latest project "One Nation Under Sex", co-written by Columbia lecturer David Eisenbach, and subtitled How the Private Lives of Presidents and First Ladies Shaped America, is nothing less than "a sweeping account of how the sex lives of American presidents have had a tangible effect on American policy and history." Gawker has posted the book's proposal online. [All links SFW.]

This is the sort of book my mother calls "trash" and yet happens to buy in hardback on the first day of its release. I predict high sales.

Also: all links are SFW. I meant to add that too.

Could you please warn us in the post if this is the case? I almost clicked some of those links.

I'm saying the links are safe to click. I figured I ought to mention that here because Larry Flynt is involved.

I wonder what a NSFW link would be if you worked at Hustler.

I'm saying the links are safe to click.

I think that rather disappointed sebastienbailard, who was hoping for something more lascivious.

I have the day off from work, so I'm not clicking any SFW links.

Not entirely on topic, but "The People vs. Larry Flynt" needs a wider audience. It is a great movie. Milos Forman directing, and great performances by Harrelson and Courtney Love (really)!

Why would the head of a publishing company need to go through the proposal process? Just wondering. It sounds interesting, though inactionable - no candidate is likely to offer up such personal details for assessment by a curious electorate. A pity in some ways, as recent events like John Edwards' dalliance reveal the sometimes yawning gap between presentation and reality.

I think the lack of getting any ruined Nixon.

Why would the head of a publishing company need to go through the proposal process?

Wikipedia says that Larry Flynt Publications publishes pornographic films and pornographic magazines, so they may not be set up to produce a more mainstream book, or be connected to the appropriate distribution channels. Just my guess.

Palgrave is the publisher and they're a reputable academic press so I assume that's why there was a proposal. The fact that Palgrave is publishing it obviously lends the book far greater credibility (it's also supposed to have copious notation for its claims) than if Flynt published it himself.

"I wonder what a NSFW link would be if you worked at Hustler."

All personal internet surfing is verboten, but that's enforced only in the most capricious manner possibe.

As for the book, I kinda wonder who's going to ghost Flynt's half.

It never fails to amuse me that America is so twisted that Larry Flynt qualifies as a hero. And I mean that >I< count him as such, and it does in fact amuse me. The fact his publications are of no interest to me personally is irrelevant.
