Kuky Returns is an astonishingly beautiful and eerie new Czech film

Kuky just wants to go home. Directed by Academy Award winning Czech director Jan Sverak, this yet to be released film is loosely based on stories of the flooding of Bohemia in 2002. With design elements reminiscent of the beautiful flash games created by Amanita Design, it is visually stunning. No word on any North American distribution (boo), but opening on May 20 in the Czech Republic (yaay!).
I'm so psyched for this! Really hoping it has a UK release.

Someone better work out an English-language release, because otherwise I'm going to have to learn to speak fluent Czech just so I can experience this movie. I love the trailer that much.

My Czech's not as fluent as it used to be, but I hope it's subtitled and not dubbed so I can keep listening to Zdenek Sverak's voice.

Every time I see something in Czech, I want to take another crack at learning the language. There is such a tongue-twistingly beautiful quality to many of the words. Sometimes I will open the Czech versions of random wikipedia pages and scan for especially interesting words and try to speak them outloud, just under my breath. It really freaks out my boyfriend who thinks it sounds like I've stared speaking in tongues, but I can't resist all the ž, ť, ě and ř sounds.

It's more than reminescent: Jakub Dvorsky, one of the founders of Amanita and the guy behind the art of Samorost and Machinarium designed most of the characters!

This looks great. I look forward to watching it in the cinema here in Prague (though I'll have to pretend that I speak Czech, and also pretend to have children so I don't seem too weird).

piratebowling, several weeks of my life was more or less given to practicing the ř sound non-stop. I regret nothing.
