D'aw. And I thought my dog was special because he could open jars.

That's it! I'm sacking my dog now!

My dog knows how to pull out the trash can. Does that count?

That said--if Jesse is so smart, how come she (he?) hasn't made the switch from VCR to Blu-Ray?

Some people train their dogs to do less practical things.

Behold the power of clicker training!

Jesse's obviously really into it, and so is his human. At our house, we've only gone so far as to teach all our cats to give us high fives and leap over my arm on request.

Much like myself in high school, my dog isn't stupid, just not that motivated.

It cost $157.92 in doggie treats to make that 3 minute video.

Well I'll say it. My dog is dumb. He's a hound so he's wired to think primarily with his nose. It seldom serves him well.

Fortunately he's adorable. Sure smart is impressive, but cute and goofy can get a pooch pretty far in life too.

Ah teaching the pup to untie shoelaces, now that trick will come back to haunt!

Good doggie! There's more Jesse video with the German Shepherd you see briefly in one of the shots over at http://www.youtube.com/user/hunkymonkeykaine.

Some dogs just love having jobs, and it makes them so very happy. Clearly, this dog has a lot of jobs.

My dog does odd jobs around the house, also.

That's nothing. Her other dog does the video editing.

I guess we can't make a video of my dog unstuffing her dog bed and burying toys she stole from my five year-old in all the corners of the yard.

I can just picture the dark side of living with that OCD creature.

"Jesus Christ! It's 3:24 a.m.--what the hell is all that racket?"
"Oh, it's just Jesse doing a load of laundry and vacuuming the family room. He's had a little too much coffee this morning. Go back to sleep."

"Jesse, I said turn the fucking light OFF and LEAVE it off!"

"Down, Jesse! The nice Avon Lady doesn't want her back scratched! Anyhow, I've told you a thousand times to wait until they're sitting on the floor--you're too short to scratch her back when she's standing! "Sorry, Emily. Jesse gets a little carried away sometimes." "Jessie, you pull the nice Avon Lady's underwear back UP and then smooth down her skirt. No treats for you until you do!"

what leftcoastbob said...

It's cute for the 5 minutes that you want him to do those tricks. But that Jack Russel will be awake for about another 6 hours 55 minutes every day. Have fun keeping him occupied!

One of my dogs also knows how to untangle the leash from his legs. The other can turn off the Xbox because she hates when we play Rock Band. Just thought you'd like to know.

My dog's only trick, of all these, is getting up underneath the blankets, but she's good at it.

cmoj, if my dog thinks the laptop is getting attention that she should be getting, it is then -- and only then, that she chews on the cables. Looking straight at me the whole time.

My dog's only trick is pulling individual kleenex out of the box. It's not much of a trick, granted, but we're proud anyway :)

My border collie watched and said that Jessie is a friggen show off and can go to hell.

I already told my wife that this is our next breed of dog.

Jack Russels are an incredible breed. Having a full bred border collie, I see many similarities in intelligence and then also the negative side (spaz, OCD) if you don't train them and give them a job. Both are amazing dogs but both are not for every person. I'll take a border over a Jack any day but that's because of my PTSD after going to my cousin-in-law's house. My border collie never tried humping me and my 2 year old son.
