MBC Star Audition, an American Idol-style singing competition show from major Korean broadcaster MBC, let aspiring contestants audition via YouTube. Audition videos can be seen through the mbcaudition YouTube channel. Videos had to be 100 seconds or less, with contestants (solo or group) singing a K-pop song. Contestants from over 25 countries submitted videos, giving viewers a glimpse of their talent (and room decor).
Some of the audition videos:
kairiroxas from Colombia singing the Japanese version of Boa's No. 1
littlesunshine09 from Germany singing SHINee's Hello
Akinee from Peru singing Tohoshinki/DBSK's どうして君を好きになってしまったんだろう?
funkystar25 from the UK singing G.NA's 꺼져 줄게 잘 살아 ("I'll leave so you can have a good life")
kimaginati0n from Canada singing a K-pop mashup

I like Akinee, and kimanginati0n should get in the finals for sheer energy alone.

Promo video using Tenacious D's "Tribute"
The show only just now aired the 2nd episode, of open auditions in Japan. For the YouTube auditions, the video upload period was Nov. 10 - Nov. 27, with the voting period running Nov. 28 - Dec. 3. Most voted/viewed videos (had to view video through the mbcaudition channel gallery, which then displayed widgets for voting) were then judged by a panel of judges to determine who'd get to audition in Korea.
I'm curious if other reality contest-type shows have done these kind of open video auditions, or if this MBC / YouTube event is the first of its kind.
