An interactive music video by Japanese band Sour that is easily the coolest thing I have seen all week. I recommend connecting to at least your Facebook account; it's worth it.

Wha? Safari and Chrome only? How could they neglect the fox that way.

Warning: Spawns browser windows like crazy.

That was invasive enough, so... I have no idea what it does, or why I'd want it to know my account info for anything.

Ack.

I did it, and I'm really glad I did. I wish I had a webcam just for this video.
posted by no mind at 11:20 AM on December 10, 2010

Also if you're worried about all of the windows, the video cleans up after itself when it's done.

Pretty cool--extremely well done. Even without connecting, it still throws in some personal info, like your location.

As a web developer, I have to just say, in the words of Neo: Whoah.

Let it connect to everything, esp your webcam. Totally worth it, and doesn't seem to have done anything evil.

the webcam thing was really great. too bad the song was somewhat awkward.

So you guys actually get something besides a progress bar I take it?

Takes a while to load, but it's worth it. Fun.

Potomac Avenue - yeah, totally agree about the song.

Just you wait, the next video will be composed of the video harvested from people using this, and then funded by all of your stolen bank accounts. :)

"I recommend connecting to at least your Facebook account..."

I've had people recommend exfoliating with a cheese grater, too. Doesn't mean I'm going to do it.

Yeah, that's all I got too.

No. But what a progress bar!

Maybe they're crammed with traffic? It isn't working for me either.

I think it's funny that you think I have a Facebook account.

that was great. i really like this, and their other videos.
but, i'm not too big a fan of the music, tbh.
posted by yeoz at 11:51 AM on December 10, 2010

I didn't think it would be worth it. But it was totally worth it. And the music wasn't that bad, you sourpusses.
posted by rikschell at 11:53 AM on December 10, 2010

Oh my god that was unbearable. That music wasn't just boring, it was obnoxiously crap-tastic! I used to think I hated auto-tune but fucking hell.. tune this guy's voice up! What is it about pop singers who don't know how to sing that they ALWAYS sing just flat? C'mon!! You don't have to be a great singer.. just read a book for FIVE MINUTES and learn about breath support and how to keep your pitch up. Ugh, like nails on a chalkboard!!!! Rufus Wainwright is also guilty of this. And he is considered a great singer/songwriter! Guy makes a career out of singing flat. Unbearable.

And that Dylan guy! What a farce! And what is this about this new rap-hop music I hear so much about! That barely qualifies as music!

Sour! Oh yes! I got this thread bookmarked now.

Anyone wary of the multiple pop-ups or it asking for log-in info, I'll echo what others have said: it's harmless, and a lot of fun.

Only if you first sync it with your Payer Player account.

The part where it connected to Farmville and started inseminating my pigs was so not cool.

It did a lot of things that would normally make me closewindow/stopscript/quitprogram/shutdowneverythingOMG, but did so elegantly; I think the non-threatening style of the music helped me to accept it.

I have a question for everyone else here:

What city did the google map segment go to for you?

What city did the google map segment go to for you?

Downtown Louisville, KY. Where I live.
posted by Mcable at 5:09 PM on December 10, 2010

That was AWESOME. I don't care if they hax0r my iMac or invite all of my friends to Frontierville. That was seriously cool.
posted by rollbiz at 5:45 PM on December 10, 2010

Music wasn't super great, but it was decent with the exception of the singer's voice.

So this app, it hijacks your MeFi account and says good things about itself?

You mean Bob Zimmerman, the overrated folkie who also can't sing?

Anon brought down the websites of several major finance companies this week. That was cool too, in its way.

That would be SO cool (I imagine), if it ever loaded anything.

On my 4th reload attempt, watching the passive router activity light

It's not just you, Samizdata. I tried three or four times yesterday and couldn't get it to load completely once.
posted by PhoBWanKenobi at 2:40 PM on December 11, 2010

Sadly it only loaded if I gave it access to just my webcam, and then it never actually connected to said webcam. I tried to use with FB or Twitter and neither worked. Boo.

For those who had trouble, I found that it only worked after I disabled AdBlocker.
