Ands it's troubling to me to see several Metatalk posts lately that essentially come down to people asking either that their opinions be group-validated, or that opinions they don't like be removed by the mods.

If it is an official school function at a public school then they can't discriminate but if it is private they can. What do you want to bet that the next year it will be back at the High School and a school event?

You would have to give some incredible odds to get anyone to take that bet. These people want to turn high schools, and America in general, into country clubs. I'm sure they'd have no problem letting a gay man decorate the place beforehand.

I make a lot more money than my girlfriend. She has a hard time buying gifts for me because anything I really want, I just buy for myself. Books in particular. I have thousands of books. My big Irish-American family wouldn't even blink an eye at that, and it's full of people who vote Republican and keep pictures of JFK on the wall next to those of the Pope. If anything they'd ask why you didn't work in references to alcoholism or nuns.

As a secular humanist I don't believe in good fortune or lucky breaks. Life is life, it's not fair and sometimes shitty people get good stuff. That's not because they're fortunate or lucky. I had a girlfriend who did this. She had a distant ex that would hang out a lot and sometimes stay at her house. She pooh-pooh'd any objections I had and told me that it was all in the past. I thought it was weird, but I tried to be an adult about it and give her the benefit of the doubt.

They're married now (But in a loveless marriage and she wants to divorce him! Jokes on her!)
